The wage growth in Q1 increased

In Q1 2007, the average gross monthly nominal wage was CZK 20 399, which is by 7.8% higher year-on-year, real wage grew by 6.2%. In the business sphere, the average wage rose by 8.3%, in the non-business sphere by 6.1%.

In Q1 2007, the seasonally adjusted average gross monthly nominal wage (hereinafter referred to as the ‘average wage’ only) per actual person was 2.0% up on Q4 2006.

The average wage amounted to CZK 20 399, and was higher by CZK 1 481 (7.8%) than in the corresponding period of 2006. Consumer prices in Q1 2007 compared to the same period of 2006 rose by 1.5%, with the real wage rising by 6.2%, which is the biggest increase since Q1 2004. The average wage rose by CZK 1 584 (8.3%) to CZK 20 656 in the business sphere, with the real wage rising by 6.7%. In the non-business sphere, the average wage rose by CZK 1 116 (6.1%) to CZK 19 501, with the real wage rising by 4.5%.

In Q1 2007, wage differences between industries slightly decreased compared to the corresponding period of 2006. The variation coefficient of average wages (by CZ-NACE division) grew by 0.6 percentage point to 39.1%.

The average nominal wage dropped in (CZ-NACE sections) fishing (-3.0%), a relatively low nominal wage growth was recorded in health and social work (+3.1%), education (+6.0%), the highest growth occurred in construction (+13.2%), agriculture, hunting and forestry (+10.5%) and mining and quarrying (+10.3%). The highest nominal wage (financial intermediation) was roughly 3.4 times higher than the lowest nominal wage (fishing).

Evan greater difference is apparent in average wages according to the institutional sector. In the long term, the highest average nominal wages are reached in the financial institutions sector (CZK 47 359 in Q1 2007). The lowest wages (CZK 13 172) were recorded in the households sector (i.e. wages of employees employed by unincorporated natural persons).
