The finishing harvest of all kinds of basic cereals confirmed the record-breaking estimate of the harvest (since 1993) of these cereals. Based on the survey made as at 15 September 2004 and in comparison with the final data on the previous year’s harvest the Czech Statistical Office estimates that the production of main cereals will be higher by 3 111 thousand tonnes (+54.2%) of which grain maize by 82 thousand tonnes (+17.2%). The estimated production of rape is higher by 542 thousand tonnes (+139.8%) and that of potatoes by 246 thousand tonnes (+36.0%). On the other hand the estimated production of industrial sugar beet is lower by 217 thousand tonnes (-6.2%). The production of fodder maize and silage is expected higher by 1 279 thousand tonnes (+22.4%).

The estimated production of cereals is 8 849 thousand tonnes, of potatoes 928 thousand tonnes (of which late ware potatoes account for 599 thousand tonnes), of industrial sugar beet 3 278 thousand tonnes, and of fodder maize 6 986 thousand tonnes.

The estimated average hectare yields exceed their levels of the harvest in 2003. The expected yield of cereals at 5.53 mt/ha and of grain maize at 6.36 mt/ha are by 1.57 mt/ha and 0.78 mt/ha up on the previous year, respectively.

Compared to the previous year’s hectare yields, the expected yield of potatoes (25.80 mt/ha) is higher by 6.83 mt/ha and that of industrial sugar beet (46.10 mt/ha) is higher by 0.90 mt/ha (+2,0%). This year’s weather has also influenced the production of fodder crops positively. The estimated yield of fodder maize (32.40 mt/ha) is higher by 4.85 mt/ha (+17,6%).
