Harvest forecast - June 2005
The first harvest estimate of cereals: 7.3 million tonnes
Publication Date: 11. 07. 2005
Product Code: r-2102-05
On the basis of the first 2005 estimates of yields per hectare and crop production made as at 20 June, the CZSO expects the production of main cereals to reach 7 295 thousand tonnes, the estimated production of rape is 754 thousand tonnes. Compared to the exceptionally high volumes harvested in 2004, the total decrease is 923 thousand tonnes (-11.2%) for main cereals and 180 thousand tonnes (-19.3%) for rape.
The lower estimated production of main cereals in total this year is affected by smaller sowing areas (-7 367 ha y-o-y) on the one hand, and a decrease in the average yield per hectare (from 5.43 t/ha in 2004 to 4.85 t/ha in 2005) on the other hand. The decrease in total production of main cereals against 2004 is due to a change in yield per hectare (10.7%) and change in sowing area (0.5%). A decrease of the average yield per hectare (from 3.60 t/ha in 2004 to 2.82 t/ha in 2005) is the only reason for the lower estimated production of rape. The sowing area of rape rose by 7 700 ha y-o-y.
The expected fall in the production of main cereals is mainly due to wheat (-799 851 tonnes), rye (-115 421 tonnes) and oats (-41 686 tonnes). Higher production is expected for barley (+58 824 tonnes in total).
