Publication Date: 07. 09. 2005
Product Code: r-2102-05
Based on the information as at 15 August 2005 the CZSO estimates the production of main cereals, potatoes and industrial sugar beet to total 7 072 thousand tonnes, 986 thousand tonnes and 3 190 thousand tonnes, respectively. Compared with last year’s harvest, these estimates translate into a drop of 1 147 thousand tonnes (-14.0%) in main cereals, an increase of 124 thousand tonnes (+14.4%) in potatoes and a drop of 390 thousand tonnes (-10.9%) in industrial sugar beet.
The lower estimates of main cereals and rape are primarily due to adverse weather conditions in the key harvest period.
The yields per hectare are expected to stand at 4.70 t/ha of main cereals (a decrease of 0.74 year-on-year) and 2.90 t/ha of rape (a decrease of 0.70 t/ha). The estimated yield of potatoes, 27.34 t/ha in total, is 3.38 t/ha up on last year. The yield of industrial sugar beet is estimated at 48.65 t/ha, which is 1.69 t/ha down on last year’s yield.
The production of winter wheat is expected to amount to 3 917 thousand tonnes (18.0% down on 2004). Production of 1 725 thousand tonnes is estimated for spring barley (-0.5% year-on-year), 775 thousand tonnes for rape (-17.1% year-on-year) and 923 thousand tonnes for potatoes except for early ones (+25.9% y).
