Methodology - Investment in ICT
1. Investments into ICT equipment and software
Investments into ICT equipment and software in this statistic shall mean the gross fixed capital formation (P.51), which includes acquisitions less disposals of fixed assets (P.511) and costs of ownership transfer on non-produced assets (P.512) classified to the groups of the Classification of Products by Activity (CZ-CPA) as follows:
- ICT equipment
26.2 Computers and peripheral equipment;
26.3 Communication equipment;
26.4 Consumer electronics.
- Software
58.2 Software publishing services;
62.0 Computer programming, consultancy and related services;
63.1 Data processing, hosting and related services; web portals.
Investments into computer and telecommunication equipment are a part of an item of ‘Non-financial assets as ICT equipment’ (AN.1132). “Computer software and databases” (AN.1173) involves two sub-items as follows: ‘Computer software’ (AN.11731) and ‘Databases’ (AN.11732).
Data come from the annual national accounts statistics. Data for 2022 are preliminary.
2. Household consumption expenditure on ICT equipment and services
This statistics for the Czech Republic give data on the final consumption of households in the national concept, which includes expenditure of residents in the Czech Republic and abroad spent on ICT products and services dedicated to direct satisfaction of personal needs and wishes of individuals. In international comparisons, the breakdown of items is available only in the domestic concept, which includes expenditures of both residents and non-residents within the country.
To define the ICT sector in the Czech Republic, the Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (CZ-COICOP) effective from 1 January 2024, was used, dividing ICT into the following categories:
- ICT equipment includes Telephone equipment (08.1.1 + 08.1.2), Information processing equipment (08.1.3) and Other ICT equipment and accessories (08.1.4 + 08.1.5 + 08.1.9 + 08.3.5)
- Software (08.2.0)
- Information and telecommunication services include separately accounted Fixed communication and internet services (08.3.1 + 08.3.3 + 08.3.9.9), Mobile communication and internet services (08.3.2) and Bundled telecommunication services (08.3.4)
To define the ICT sector in international comparisons, the Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (COICOP) effective until 31 December 2023 in the Czech Republic, was used, dividing ICT into the following categories:
ICT equipment
- Telephone and telefax equipment (CZ-COICOP 08.2)
- Computers and other ICT equipment (CZ-COICOP 09.1)
- Equipment for the reception, recording and reproduction of sound and picture (CZ-COICOP 09.1.1);
- Photographic and cinematographic equipment and optical instruments (CZ-COICOP 09.1.2);
- Information processing equipment (CZ-COICOP 09.1.3);
- Recording media (CZ-COICOP 09.1.4);
- Repair of audio-visual, photographic and information processing equipment (CZ-COICOP 09.1.5).
ICT services (CZ-COICOP 08.3)
- Wired telephone services (CZ-COICOP 08.3.0.1);
- Wireless telephone services (CZ-COICOP 08.3.0.2);
- Internet access provision services (CZ-COICOP 08.3.0.3);
- Bundled telecommunication services (CZ-COICOP 08.3.0.4).
