The CZSO takes data on the structure of land from the Czech Land Survey and Cadastral Office. Of the total area of the Czech Republic of 78,871 km2, 53.1% is agricultural land, 34.0% forest land, 2.2% water surface and 1.7% built-up area and courtyards. In a long-term perspective, the area of agricultural land decreased by 91 thousand ha (arable land by 261 thousand ha) over the last 30 years, on the contrary, the area of forest land increased by 54 thousand ha, water areas by 13 thousand ha, built-up areas and courtyards by 7 thousand ha and other areas by 16 thousand ha.
