Land use balance
The CZSO takes data on the structure of land from the Czech Land Survey and Cadastral Office. Of the total area of the Czech Republic of 78,871 km2, 53.2% is agricultural land, 34.0% forest land, 2.2% water surface and 1.7% built-up area and courtyards. In a long-term perspective, the area of agricultural land decreased by 88 thousand ha (arable land by 273 thousand ha) over the last 30 years, on the contrary, the area of forest land increased by 53 thousand ha, water areas by 12 thousand ha, built-up areas and courtyards by 7 thousand ha and other areas by 17 thousand ha.
