Producer price indices - 4 quarter

Compared to Q3 2009, agricultural producer prices fell by 5.6% in Q4 2009. Prices of crop products
decreased by 9.9%, prices of animal products dropped by 1.3%. Prices of potatoes, cereals, fruit and oil plants decreased (-31.9%, -7.8%, –13.6% and -7.8%, respectively). Higher were prices of vegetables by 7.5%. Among animal products price decreases were recorded in cattle for slaughter by 2.0%, pigs for slaughter by 10.4% and poultry by 1.1%. Prices of eggs and milk increased by 7.9% and 4.6%, respectively.
Prices of agricultural producers in Q4 2009 were by 16.2% lower (in Q3 -23.9%). The drop came mainly from crop products, which were 21.6% down, prices of animal products fell by 10.4%. Price drop in crop products was due mainly to lower prices of cereals
(-24.2%). On the decrease were prices of oil plants (-28.0%), fruit (-17.4%), potatoes (-7.5%), and vegetables (-2.9%). Prices of animal products were lower due to price drop of milk (-17.3%), pigs for slaughter (-10.3%), poultry (-4.2%) and cattle for slaughter (-0.5%). Prices of eggs were 6.6% up.

In Q4 2009 industrial producer prices dropped compared to Q3 2009 by 0.1 %. The biggest decreases were reported for prices of chemicals and chemical products (-3.7%), food products (-1.2%) and transport equipment (-0.4%). On the increase were mainly prices of coke and refined petroleum products (+4.2%) and electrical equipment (+1.1%).

In the y-o-y comparison industrial producer prices in Q4 fell by 2.6% (in Q3 -5.2%). The biggest drops were reported for prices of basic metals and fabricated metal products (-16.6%), chemicals and chemical products (-5.4%) and food beverages and tobacco (-4.8%). Increases were reported mainly for prices of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (+10.4%), water (+6.9%) and basic pharmaceutical products (+3.6%).

In comparison to Q3 2009, construction work prices in Q4 2009 decreased and so did prices of construction material input (both – 0.1%).
Construction work prices in Q4 2009 compared to the corresponding period of 2008 increased, y-o-y, by 0.3%, prices of construction material input decreased by 4.7%.

In comparison to Q3 2009, prices of market services increased by 1.0% in Q4 2009. Higher were mainly prices of advertising and market research by 11.8% and prices of employment activities by 3.3%. Prices in real estate services dropped by 0.9% and prices of telecommunication services by 1.3%.
Compared to Q3 2008, in Q4 2009 prices of market services rose by 0.9% in total. The development of total price level was affected mainly by prices in advertising and market research, which were 9.1% up. On the increase were prices of employment activities by 6.0%, prices in computer programming, consultancy and related activities by 5.7% and prices in financial services by 3.5%. By contrast, lower were prices in freight transport by 6.9%, information and telecommunication services by 3.2 and 2.7%, respectively.

Price development in 2009

Agricultural producer prices dropped by 24.8% in total over the year 2009 (+8.8% in the year 2008), which is the biggest y-o-y drop since the beginning of data collection. Prices of crop products were 32.2% down and prices of animal products fell by 15.2%.
In 2009 prices of cereals dropped by 41.0% and prices of oil plants were 35.3% down. Prices of potatoes, vegetables and fruits decreased by 4.6%, 8.1% and 24.4%, respectively. On the decrease were prices of poultry (-9.0%), milk (-29.3%), eggs (-1.3%) and pigs for slaughter (-0.4%). Prices of cattle for slaughter were 0.3% up.

Industrial producer prices dropped by 3.1% on average in the year 2009, which was the biggest annual drop from the beginning of data collection in 1991. The price level decrease was mainly affected by the price drop in coke, refined petroleum products (-29.1%) and especially in the first three quarters in 2009 (-35.5%; -37.2%; -33.5%; -3.9%). Prices of basic metals and fabricated metal products dropped by 10.8% on average (especially in Q3 and Q4 2009 –18.5% and –16-6%, respectively) of which mainly prices of basic iron and steel and ferro-alloys decreased by 38.0% in Q3 and by 33.5% in Q4 2009. Prices of food products fell by 4.5% on average per year. On the increase were mainly prices of electrical energy, gas, steam and water by 10.9% and prices of collection, purification and distribution of water (+6.9%).

Prices of construction work increased in 2009 by 1.2% on average (+4.5% in 2008), which is the lowest growth from the time of data collection. Prices of construction material input were 4.7% down (in 2008 +2.2%).

In the year on year comparison prices of market services in 2009 rose by 1.5% in total (+3.9% in 2008). Price increases were reported mainly for advertising services and market research (+8.2%) and for computer programming, consultancy and related services (+6.5%). On the increase were prices in administrative and other support activities (+5.6%), financial service activities (+3.0%), security and investigation activities (+2.7%) and in employment activities (+2.2%). On the decrease were prices in information service activities (-2.0%), telecommunication services (-2.7%) and freight transport services (-5.0%).
