In September 2005, seasonally adjusted industrial production was by 0.8% up month-on-month. The trend grew by 0.6% month-on-month (Table 5).

The year-on-year industrial production index reached 107.1%. The growth persisted continuously for five years – with the exception of December 2000 and August 2002. Sales in industry at constant prices (the year 2000) rose by 9.5%.
Industrial production increased most in the following CZ-NACE activities:
- ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (motor vehicles, self-propelled railway or tramway coaches powered from an external source of electricity)
- ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (rubber-to-metal bonded articles for tractors and motor vehicles, plastic doors; windows and their frames)
- ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (derv fuel, lubricating oils).
The largest decreases in industrial production were recorded for:
- ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (electrical energy, coke-oven gas)
- ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’ (steam coal, lignite patent fuels)
- ‘mining and quarrying, except of energy producing materials’ (other monumental/building stone, common clays and shales for construction use).
The industrial production rose in all the main industrial groupings, most in ‘intermediate goods’ (+13.4%), ‘consumer durables’ (+7.4%), ‘capital goods’ (+3.5%), ‘consumer non-durables’ (+2.5%) and ‘energy’ (+1.9%).
The high growth in ’manufacture of transport equipment’ (+29.0%), ‘manufacturing n.e.c’ (+17.2%) and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+14.3%) contributed to the increase of total sales in the industry.
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises rose by 6.7% at constant prices (+3.0% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales of industrial enterprises stood at 48.4% (current prices). The biggest increases in direct export sales at constant prices were recorded for ‘mining and quarrying except energy producing materials’ (+37.7%), ‘manufacture n.e.c.’ (+34.7%), ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (+27.9%) and ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+23.6%). The direct export sales dropped in ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’ (-30.5%), ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (-4.0%) and ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (-0.3%).
Industrial foreign-controlled enterprises raised their sales by 17.1% at constant prices (+13.8% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 56.7% (current prices). Their direct export sales increased by 7.6% at constant prices (+3.5% at current prices) and accounted for 73.5% of the total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
The average number of employees in the industry went down by 0.3% (-3.4 thousand persons) year-on-year. Year-on-year, the employment decreased most in ‘electricity, gas and water supply’, ‘mining and quarrying, except of energy producing materials’ and ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’; it increased most in ‘manufacture of transport equipment’, ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ and ‘manufacture of wood and wood products’.
The average monthly nominal wage amounted to CZK 17 893, rising by 4.8% year-on-year. The average hourly wage increased by 4.8% to stand at CZK 125.4. Labour productivity (sales per employee) increased by 9.9% and productivity per hour by 9.9%. Unit wage costs were 4.6% down.
New orders in industrial enterprises in selected CZ-NACE activities were worth CZK 126.9 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic orders accounted for CZK 80.0 billion. The year-on-year index of new orders in total was 107.7%, of which the index of new non-domestic orders was 105.6%. The value of new non-domestic orders increased most in ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (index 139.6%) ‘manufacture of other transport equipment’ (index 131.4%) ‘manufacture of electrical machinery and apparatus n.e.c.’ (index 128.2%). The volume of new non-domestic orders dropped most in ‘manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products’ (index 91.5%) and ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres‘ (index 96.8%).
