In 2024, the total area of specially protected areas in Czechia was 1,330.3 thousand ha, which represents 16.9% of the territory of Czechia. Czechia contributed 1,111 sites of European importance to the Natura 2000 system, which represents 10.1% of the territory of Czechia. Together with 42 bird areas, which in 2024 occupied 9.1% of the territory of Czechia, Natura 2000 makes up roughly 14% of the territory of Czechia. Sites of European importance and bird areas may overlap.
