20 October 2025

Already since 2010, once in five years, always on 20 October, statisticians all over the world have been marking significance of reliable and objective data as well as the importance of statistical literacy. The Czech Statistical Office, on the occassion of the World Statistics Day, prepared for the public, for example, a statistics quiz, an exhibition of infographics, or a webinar, and a DATAMAN is also coming!

Try an on-line statistics quiz (Czech only). Test your knowledge from different statistical domains by 11 questions of varying difficulty. You can choose from several offered options, only one answer is correct.

Do you know what the CZSO does and why? Have a look at this short video! Statisticians also asked their children: “Where do I work?” and “What do I do there?” So have a look! (Czech only) You may be interested in what a statistician finds enjoyable about his/her work (Czech only), what his/her work is useful for, and what statistics means to him/her.

The CZSO also started again its popular project of Minicensus – 2025 (Czech only), which introduces pupils and students aged 9–15 years to the world of statistics in an entertaining way and is currently the biggest probe into children’s lives.

“Independent official statistics can help all society develop, because it brings key and trustworthy data. Moreover, the Czech Statistical Office tries to communicate them to the public in a friendly and comprehensible way,” Marek Rojíček, President of the Czech Statistical Office, says.

The CZSO also marks the World Statistics Day with its activities on the following social networks: X, Instagram and LinkedIn. You can look forward to a series of comic posts, in which we will present statistics with a fictional superhero DATAMAN who embodies values and principles of statistics. His life’s mission is to fight for trustworthy data and help people better understand the world around us. It is because the year 2025 is related to 20 years of existence of the European Statistics Code of Practice, which guides us every day at the CZSO. Read why the Code of Practice guarantees trustworthiness and quality of statistical data, why users can trust European statistics, and why independence and co-operation is important for statisticians (Czech only).

Right in the headquarters of the Czech Statistical Office in Prague’s Skalka, a charity statistical brunch takes place today. During that, employees share their home-made delicacies while raising funds among them for a charity project called Ambulance of your dreams (“Sanitka snů” in Czech). Remotely, employees from Regional Offices of the CZSO will also participate in the event.

In the building of the Czech Statistical Office, for several weeks, visitors can see an exhibition of statistical infographics that are very popular with the public. On the CZSO’s social networks, they are among the most popular posts and are also positively evaluated by experts.

And to add even more, we are offering those interested the opportunity to participate in a webinar (Czech only) this week that is called in Czech Statistický geoportál v kostce; it will take place on Thursday 23 October.
