Number of foreigners, demographic events

As at 31 December 2024, the Directorate of the Foreign Police Service recorded 1,094,089 foreigners, 28,349 more than in the previous year. More than half (54%, 589,456 persons) of all foreigners were Ukrainian citizens, 11% were Slovak citizens (121,471 persons), 6% were Vietnamese citizens (69,015 persons), and just under 4% were Russian citizens (38,970 persons). More than one third of foreigners (34%, 372,225 persons) resided in Czechia on a basis of a permanent residence permit (or permanent type of residence of persons granted asylum). Of the foreigners with a temporary residence, 54% (592,726 persons) of all foreigners were third-country nationals with long-term residence permits, 10% (112,288 persons) were EU nationals with temporary residence permits, and just under 2% (16,850 persons) were holders of long-term visas. EU nationals accounted for 21% of all foreigners (231,525 persons).
