Changes in price statistics from January 2026 onward

The following changes were implemented starting from the reference period January 2026:

1. Based on user requirements, the content of the news release Flash estimate of the consumer price index was expanded to include the items Food and non-alcoholic beverages and Alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Users thus have access to timely information on price developments for both food and non-alcoholic beverages (COICOP 01) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (COICOP 02).

The new structure of the published table of the flash estimate of the consumer price index is following:

2. To ensure a consistency with the HICP for the groups goods in total and services, water supply (representative – 04411001) is newly reclassified from the category of services to the category of goods.

3.  The time series Average Consumer Prices of Food (preliminary monthly one-time field survey) was terminated. The informative capacity of the field survey of instantaneous prices has recently decreased and the data were not consistent with information on realized prices from scanner data. Average consumer prices of selected types of goods based on scanner data continue to be published on the dates of publication of the consumer price index via DataStat (https://data.csu.gov.cz/datastat/data/VYBER/CEN0101NT01) and it is planned to expand this output in the future.

4. In accordance with the relevant EU legislation, the consumer price index is newly published in the updated classification of individual consumption by purpose (CZ-COICOP),
see CZ-COICOP_2018.

5. According to Regulation (EU) 2016/792 of the European Parliament and of the Council, a time series of basic indices is introduced with the average of the year 2025 = 100 as the basis. From this time series, indices are calculated for other bases (previous month = 100, same period of the previous year = 100 and the index of moving averages for the last 12 months to the average of the previous 12 months). The original time series with base year 2015 = 100 will continue to be calculated and published, but other indices using these time series are no longer derived.

6. Consumer price indices are also calculated on updated weights, which are based on household monetary expenditures in 2024 and are modified by the estimate of expenditures in 2025.

7. Time series containing consumer price data are newly presented in the new DataStat web database. The tables in the existing CZSO Public Database (VDB) remain valid, but will no longer be updated.
