Tertiary education

In 2023, there were 309 thousand students attending public and private universities in Czechia. The representation of foreigners has been steadily increasing, with over 55 thousand studying in Czechia by the end of 2023. While 21% of Czech female residents aged 20-29 were enrolled in university in 2023, the figure for males was only 17%. While the number of students has been slightly increasing since 2019, the number of graduates consistently declined after 2012 and only began to increase again in 2023, reaching 63 thousand. This is still significantly lower than the peak year of 2012, when a total of 94 thousand students graduated from university. The number of first-time enrolled students at universities has been increasing since 2017, with a decrease only in 2022. In 2023, there were 66 thousand first-time enrolled students at universities.
