Tertiary education

In 2025, there were 330.5 thousand students enrolled at public and private higher education institutions in the Czech Republic. Nearly one in five of these students held foreign citizenship. Among female residents of the Czech Republic aged 20–29, 23% were enrolled in higher education in 2025, compared with 17% of men. Between 2010 and 2019, the number of students decreased by 27%. Subsequently, it increased by 15% by 2025. As a result, the number of graduates fell by 38% between 2012 and 2022, and then rose by 18% over the last three years. In 2025, there were 69 thousand graduates. The number of first-time enrolled students at public and private higher education institutions increased by 33% between 2016 and 2025, reaching 74 thousand in 2025.
