Industrial production was 0.5% up month-on-month (seasonally adjusted).
The year-on-year industrial production index reached 106.6% or 108.8% (working days adjusted, WDA; there was one less working day in September 2004 compared to September 2003). Sales in industry at constant prices (year 2000) were higher by 8.0% or 10.3% (WDA).
The highest increases in the industrial production were observed in the following CZ-NACE activities:
- ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (steel tubes, iron or steel bridges)
- ‘manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products; publishing and printing’ (printed books, brochures and leaflets, reproduction of sound and vision video recording)
- ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (bumpers and parts thereof, gear boxes)
Decreases in the industrial production were recorded for:
- ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’ (leather; waterproof footwear with leather uppers)
- ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (woven fabrics of carded wool; coats and overcoats, of leather)
- ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’ (hard coal, peat)
As for the main industrial groupings, the highest increases in production were recorded for ‘capital goods’ (+10.1%) and ‘intermediate goods’ (+9.2%). Production of ‘energy’ decreased (-1.0%).
The high growth of ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+40.0%), ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+8.8%) and ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products’ (+8.7%) contributed to the increase of total sales in industry.
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises rose by 17.2% at constant prices (+17.9% at current prices), and their share in total sales of industrial enterprises stood at 50.3% (current prices). The highest constant price increases in the direct export sales were recorded for ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+50.1%), ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (+17.9%) and ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+17.7%). Direct export sales dropped most in ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (-42.2%) and ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (-12.0%).
Industrial foreign-controlled enterprises raised their sales by 13.2% at constant prices (+15.0% at current prices), and their share in total sales stood at 53.5% (current prices). Direct export sales of these enterprises increased by 19.8% at current prices (+20.8% at constant prices) and accounted for 73.1% of their total sales.
The average number of employees in the industry grew, for the first time in three years, by 0.1% (+1.3 thousand persons) y-o-y. The employment rose most in ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’, ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ and ‘manufacture of transport equipment’. Decreases occurred in ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’, ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ and ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’.
Average monthly nominal wage amounted to CZK 17 073, rising by 6.7% y-o-y. Unit wage costs were 1.1% down. Average hourly wage stood at CZK 119.70 and increased by 9.1%. Labour productivity (sales per employee) was 7.9% up, productivity per hour grew by 10.3%.
New orders in industrial enterprises in selected CZ-NACE were worth CZK 115.7 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic orders accounted for CZK 74.1 billion. The y-o-y index of new orders in total was 116.5%, of which the one of new non-domestic orders made up 120.0%. The highest volumes of new non-domestic orders were signed in ‘manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers’ and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ – their y-o-y indices were 107.7% and 133.8%, respectively. The volume of new non-domestic orders decreased in ‘manufacture of wearing apparel, dressing and dyeing of fur’ (index 87.2%) and ‘manufacture of other transport equipment’ (index 60.8%).
