Exports of machinery and transport equipment supported industrial growth

In October 2006, seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 1.2% month-on-month. The year-on-year index of industrial production reached 112.8%. Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of the year 2000) rose by 13.7%. Industrial new orders increased by 19.6% year-on-year.

Seasonally adjusted industrial production in October 2006 was up by 1.2% month-on-month. The trend grew by 0.7% (Table 5).

The year-on-year index of industrial production reached 112.8% (or 108.7% working days adjusted, WDA; October 2006 had two working days more than October 2005). The growth of industrial production (Table 6) was most affected by ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+21.4%, contribution to growth of industry in total 3.2 percentage points), ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+17.1%, contribution 3.2 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+12.52%, contribution 1.6 p.p.). Decrease was recorded for ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (-8.0%, contribution -0.3 p.p.).
As to the main industrial groupings, production increases were recorded for ‘capital goods’ (+20.2%), ‘consumer durables’ (+19.5%), ‘intermediate goods’ (+12.7%) and ‘consumer non-durables’ (+6.0%). Production of ‘energy’ decreased (-0.7%).
Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of the year 2000) rose by 13.7% year-on-year (14.2% at current prices) or 8.7% working days adjusted. The increase of sales from industrial activity was most contributed to by ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+17.1%, contribution to growth of industry in total 3.4 percentage points), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+20.0%, contribution 3.3 p.p.), ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+26.0%, contribution 1.9 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+23.9%, contribution 1.5 p.p.).
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased by 16.0% at constant prices (+15.1% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales of industrial enterprises was 48.8% (current prices).
Sales from industrial activity of foreign-controlled enterprises were up by 20.9% at constant prices (+21.8% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 59.6% (current prices). Direct export sales of industrial foreign-controlled enterprises increased by 19.3% at constant prices (+18.7% at current prices) and made up 76.0% of total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
The average number of employees in the industry went up by 0.7% in October (+8.4 thousand persons) year-on-year. Increases were registered in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+8.3%), ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+5.1%), and ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+4.9%). Employment decreased most in ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (-9.0%), ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’ (-5.9%) and ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’ (-3.9%).
The average monthly nominal wage in the industry rose by 7.7% year-on-year and amounted to CZK 19 615. The average hourly wage increased by 1.1% and stood at CZK 129.5. Labour productivity in the industry (sales per employee) rose by 12.9% and hourly labour productivity by 6.0%. Unit wage costs were down by 4.6%.
Industrial new orders in selected CZ-NACE activities concluded in October reached the value of CZK 152.3 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic industrial new orders made up CZK 95.7 billion. The industrial new orders index (y-o-y) in total stood at 119.6%. The y-o-y non-domestic industrial new orders index increased by 21.3%. Non-domestic industrial new orders grew most in ‘manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers‘ (+22.9%, contribution to growth of industry in total 7.0 percentage points), ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+46.0%, contribution 5.6 p.p.), ‘manufacture of electrical machinery and apparatus‘ (+27.6%, contribution 2.8 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products‘ (+38.0%, contribution 2.6 p.p.).
