Growth of the industry driven by external demand

In November 2006, seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 0.7% month-on-month. The year-on-year index of industrial production reached 107.6%. Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of the year 2000) rose by 8.8% year-on-year. Industrial new orders increased by 14.6% year-on-year.

Seasonally adjusted industrial production in November 2006 was up by 0.7% month-on-month. The trend grew by 0.7% (Table 5).

The year-on-year index of industrial production reached 107.6%. The growth of industrial production (Table 6) was most affected by ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+16.5%, contribution to growth of industry in total 3.1 percentage points), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+13.1%, contribution 2.3 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+23.8%, contribution 1.4 p.p.). On the contrary, decrease was recorded for ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (-2.2%, contribution -0.3 p.p.), ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (-8.0%, contribution -0.3 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ -7.7%, contribution –0.2 p.p.).
As to the main industrial groupings, production increases were recorded for ‘consumer durables’ (+34.6%), ‘capital goods’ (+15.3%), ‘intermediate goods’ (+3.4%) and ‘energy’ (+2.8%). Production of ‘consumer non-durables’ decreased (-2.1%).
Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of the year 2000) rose by 8.8% year-on-year (9.7% at current prices). The increase of sales from industrial activity was most contributed to by ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+16.4%, contribution to growth of industry in total 3.2 percentage points), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+14.0%, contribution 2.3 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+23.8%, contribution 1.8 p.p.). Sales from industrial activity decreased in ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (-5.7%, contribution -0.3 p.p.), ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ -8.6%, contribution –0.2 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (-1.0%, contribution -0.1 p.p.).
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased by 11.8% at constant prices (+11.9% at current prices), and their share in total sales of industrial enterprises was 49.1% (current prices).
Sales from industrial activity of foreign-controlled enterprises were up by 16.7% at constant prices (+17.5% at current prices), and their share in total sales stood at 59.5% (current prices). Direct export sales of industrial foreign-controlled enterprises increased by 15.9% at constant prices (+16.0% at current prices) and made up 76.2% of total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
The average number of employees in the industry went up by 0.2% in November (+2.5 thousand persons) year-on-year. Increases were registered in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+7.7%), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+5.3%) and ‘mining and quarrying except energy producing materials’ (+4.8%). Employment decreased most in ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (-9.9%), ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’ (-6.0%) and ‘manufacturing n.e.c.’ (-4.2%).
The average monthly nominal wage in the industry rose by 5.8% year-on-year and amounted to CZK 22 744. The average hourly wage increased by 5.0% and stood at CZK 153.3. Labour productivity in the industry (sales per employee) rose by 8.6% and hourly labour productivity by 7.7%. Unit wage costs were down by 2.6%.
Industrial new orders in selected CZ-NACE activities concluded in November reached the value of CZK 151.5 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic industrial new orders made up CZK 97.2 billion. The industrial new orders index (y-o-y) in total stood at 114.6%. The y-o-y non-domestic industrial new orders index increased by 16.9%. Non-domestic industrial new orders grew most in ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+34.0%, contribution to growth of industry in total 4.2 percentage points), ‘manufacture of basic metals‘ (+43.5%, contribution 3.2 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus‘ (+39.8%, contribution 2.8 p.p.). Non-domestic industrial new orders dropped in ‘manufacture of other transport equipment‘ (-20.2%, contribution -0.5 p.p.), ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (-4.0%, contribution -0.1 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of wearing apparel, dressing and dyeing of fur’ (-12.3%, contribution -0.1 p.p.).
