Growth of the industry driven by foreign investors

In November 2005, seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 0.9% month-on-month. The year-on-year industrial production index reached 107.2%. Sales in industry at constant prices (the year 2000) rose by 10.7%. Industrial new orders were up by 6.4% year-on-year.

In November 2005, seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 0.9% month-on-month. The trend grew by 0.8% (Table 5).

The year-on-year industrial production index reached 107.2%. Sales in industry at constant prices (the year 2000) rose by 10.7%.
Industrial production increased most in the following CZ-NACE activities:
- manufacture of transport equipment (+28.0%)
- manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+10.3%)
- manufacturing n.e.c. (+14.5%).
The largest decreases in industrial production were recorded for:
- electricity, gas and water supply (-3.5%)
- manufacture of textiles and textile products (-5.5%)
- manufacture of leather and leather products (-2.6%)
As for the main industrial groupings, increases in production were recorded for ‘intermediate goods’ (+12.9%), ‘consumer durables’ (+9.4%), ‘capital goods’ (+6.2%) and ‘consumer non-durables’ (+2.0%), while production of ‘energy’ decreased (-1.2%).
High growth of ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+27.2%) and ‘manufacture of wood and wood products’ (+17.2%) contributed to the increase of total sales in industry.
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises rose by 8.8% at constant prices (+5.4% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales of industrial enterprises stood at 47.8% (current prices). The highest increases in direct export sales at constant prices were recorded for ‘manufacture of wood and wood products’ (+36.7%), ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (+31.4%) and ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+26.1%). Direct export sales dropped in ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (- 11.2%), ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’ (-3.8%) and ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (-3.4%).
Sales of industrial foreign-controlled enterprises were up by 18.2% at constant prices (+14.8% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 55.5% (current prices). Their direct export sales increased by 10.5% at constant prices (+6.7% at current prices) and made up 73.8% of total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
The average number of employees in the industry went up by 0.2% (+2.1 thousand persons) year-on-year. Year-on-year, employment increased in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’, ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’; and decreased most in ‘electricity, gas and water supply’, ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ and ‘mining and quarrying, except of energy producing materials’.
The average monthly nominal wage rose by 5.2% year-on-year and amounted to CZK 21 457. The average hourly wage increased by 5.7% and was CZK 145.8. Labour productivity (sales per employee) increased by 10.5% and productivity per hour by 11.0%. Unit wage costs were down by 4.8%.
Industrial new orders in selected CZ-NACE activities were worth CZK 130.0 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic industrial new orders made up CZK 81.9 billion. The industrial new orders index (y-o-y) in total stood at 106.4%, of which the non-domestic industrial new orders index was 104.0%. Non-domestic industrial new orders increased most in ‘manufacture of other transport equipment‘ (index 169.4%), ‘manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus’ (index 142.6%) and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (index 134.5%). Non-domestic industrial new orders dropped in ‘manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment‘ (index 78.5%) and ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products‘ (index 90.4%).
