In May 2005, seasonally adjusted industrial production was by 0.8% down month-on-month. The trend rose by 0.4% month-on-month (Table 5).

The year-on-year industrial production index reached 104.0%. Sales in industry at constant prices (the year 2000) grew by 7.5%.
Industrial production increased most in the following CZ-NACE activities:
- ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (work of productive nature in manufacture of motor vehicles, gear boxes)
- ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (shutters, blinds and parts thereof, of plastics, rubber hose reinforced with textiles)
- ‘mining and quarrying except energy producing materials’ (kaolinic clays, crude or unrefined sulphur).
The largest decreases in industrial production were recorded for:
- ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (woven fabrics, tufted carpets and other textile floor coverings)
- ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (iron, steel and ferro-alloys, tubes and pipes)
- ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (coke-oven gas, water, steam and hot water)
The industrial production grew in all the main industrial groupings, rising most in ‘consumer durables’ (+6.4%), ‘intermediate goods’ (+5.5%), ‘consumer non-durables’ (+4.2%), ‘energy’ (+3.2%) and ‘capital goods’ (+1.5%).
High growth in ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+22.6%), ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+14.0%) and ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (+9.6%) contributed to the increase of total sales in the industry.
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises rose by 7.1% at constant prices (+4.4% at current prices), and their share in total sales of industrial enterprises stood at 48.4% (current prices). The greatest increases in direct export sales at constant prices were recorded for ‘mining and quarrying except energy producing materials’ (+42.3%), ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+17.4%), ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (+15.2%) and ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+15.0%). On the other hand, direct export sales dropped in ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (-10.7%), ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’ (-7.8%) and ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (-6.1%).
Industrial foreign-controlled enterprises raised their sales by 13.7% at constant prices (+11.4% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 55.1% (current prices). Their direct export sales increased by 5.1% at current prices (+9.1% at constant prices) and accounted for 73.3% of the total sales of these enterprises.
The average number of employees in the industry went up by 0.6% (+6.4 thousand persons) year-on-year. The employment increased in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’, ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ ‘manufacture of wood and wood products’ and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’; it decreased most in ‘electricity, gas and water supply’, ‘mining and quarrying, except of energy producing materials’ and ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’.
The average monthly nominal wage amounted to CZK 18 544, rising by 5.3% year-on-year. The average hourly wage increased by 2.6% and stood at CZK 123.60. Labour productivity (sales per employee) grew by 6.9% and productivity per hour by 4.2%. Unit wage costs were 1.5% down.
New orders in industrial enterprises in selected CZ-NACE activities were worth CZK 115.8 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic orders accounted for CZK 72.7 billion. The year-on-year index of new orders in total was 98.5%, of which the one of new non-domestic orders was 99.8%. The highest volumes of new non-domestic orders were signed in ‘manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus’ (index 127.9%) ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (116.7%), ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (index 112.4%). The volume of new non-domestic orders decreased most in ‘manufacture of medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks‘ (index 51.4%), ‘manufacturing of office machinery and computers’ (index 65.6%) and ‘manufacture of basic metals’ (index 80.1%).
