Double-digit growth of industry continued

In June 2006, seasonally adjusted industrial production was down by 0.4% month-on-month. The year-on-year industrial production index reached 110.5%. Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of 2000) rose by 10.8%. Industrial new orders were up by 9.3% year-on-year.

Seasonally adjusted industrial production was down by 0.4% month-on-month in June 2006. The trend grew by 0.8% (Table 5).

The year-on-year industrial production index reached 110.5%. The growth of industrial production (Table 6) was most affected by ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+17.2%, contribution to the growth of industry in total 3.4 percentage points), ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+20.1%, contribution 2.6 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+18.4%, contribution 2.2 p.p.). A decrease in industrial production was recorded for ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’ (-14.1%, contribution -0.2%), ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-2.3%, contribution -0.2 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products; publishing and printing’ (-1.6%, contribution -0.1 p.p.).
As to the main industrial groupings, increases in production were recorded for ‘consumer durables’ (+41.4%), ‘capital goods’ (+15.9%) and ‘intermediate goods’ (+11.2%), while production of ‘consumer non-durables’ and ‘energy’ decreased (-1.8% and -0.5%, respectively).
Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of 2000) rose by 10.8% year-on-year. The increase of sales from industrial activity was most contributed to by ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+17.2%, contribution to the growth of industry in total 3.5 percentage points), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+18.4%, contribution 2.6 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+19.1%, contribution 2.0 p.p.). Sales from industrial activity decreased in ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (-10.1%, contribution -0.2 p.p.), ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-2.1%, contribution -0.2 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products’ (-1.1%, contribution -0.1 p.p.).
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased by 11.9% at constant prices (+9.6% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales of industrial enterprises stood at 49.8% (current prices).
Sales from industrial activity of foreign-controlled enterprises were up by 17.8% at constant prices (+16.8% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 59.2% (current prices). Direct export sales of industrial foreign-controlled enterprises increased by 14.6% at constant prices (+12.2% at current prices) and made up 74.5% of total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
The average number of employees in the industry went up by 1.5% (+17.2 thousand persons) year-on-year. It increased in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+8.5%), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+5.6%) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+5.3%). Employment decreased most in ‘manufacture of textiles’ (-8.8%), ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (-4.7%) and ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-4.3%).
The average monthly nominal wage in the industry rose by 5.9% year-on-year and amounted to CZK 19 661. The average hourly wage increased by 6.2% and was CZK 132.6. Labour productivity in industry (sales per employee) rose by 9.1% and hourly labour productivity by 9.4%. Unit wage costs were down by 2.9%.
Industrial new orders in selected CZ-NACE activities concluded in June reached the value of CZK 145.8 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic industrial new orders made up CZK 93.0 billion. The industrial new orders index (y-o-y) in total stood at 109.3%, of which the non-domestic industrial new orders index was 105.2%. Non-domestic industrial new orders grew most in ‘manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus‘ (index 137.8%), ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment‘ (index 122.8%) and ‘manufacture of electrical machinery and apparatus‘ (index 120.2%). Non-domestic industrial new orders dropped in ‘manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products‘ (index 66.4%), ‘manufacture of medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks’ (index 68.0%) and ‘manufacture of wearing apparel, dressing and dyeing of fur’ (index 90.9%). The volume of orders in selected CZ-NACE activities was CZK 361.9 billion (index 122.9%) at the end of June 2006.
