Industrial production was 1.7% up month-on-month (seasonally adjusted).
The year-on-year industrial production index reached 115.1% or 112.8% (working days adjusted, WDA; there was one more working day in June 2004 compared to June 2003). Sales in industry at constant prices (year 2000) were higher by 14.9% or 12.5% (WDA). Industry has been growing by more than 10% for four consecutive months.
The highest increases in the industrial production were reported for the following CZ-NACE activities:
- ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (cast iron and steel tubes and pipes, other first processing of iron and steel and production of ferro-alloys)
- ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (optical fibre cables, parts and accessories for computers and other data processing machines)
- ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (chassis fitted with engines, for motor vehicles; bumpers and parts thereof)
Decreases in the industrial production were recorded for:
- ‘mining and quarrying, except of energy producing materials’ (coking coal, lignite)
- ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (mineral waters and aerated waters, cigarettes)
- ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’ (tanning and dressing of leather, waterproof footwear)
Industrial production grew in all the main industrial groupings, production of ‘capital goods’ (+27.1%) and ‘intermediate goods’ (+18.8%) rising most.
The high growth of ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+46.1%), ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+18.5%), ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+17.1%) and ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+17.1%) contributed to the increase of total sales in industry.
Direct export sales by industrial enterprises rose by 22.9% at constant prices (+27.3% at current prices), and their share in total sales by industrial enterprises stood at 49.3% (current prices). The highest constant price increases were recorded for ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+56.9%), ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+27.2%) and ‘manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products’ (+25.7%). A fall in direct export sales occurred in ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (-44.1%).
Industrial foreign-controlled enterprises raised their sales by 21.5% at constant prices (+25.1% at current prices), and their share in total sales stood at 53.9% (current prices). Direct export sales by these enterprises increased by 25.3% at constant prices (+29.1% at current prices) and accounted for 72.0% of their total sales.
The average number of employees in the industry dropped by 0.6% (6.6 thousand persons) y-o-y. Employment fell especially in ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’, ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’ and ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’; on the other hand, employment increased in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’, ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ and ‘manufacture of transport equipment’.
The average monthly nominal wage amounted to CZK 17 583, rising by 7.1% y-o-y. The average hourly wage stood at CZK 118.30 and increased by 1.2% y-o-y. Labour productivity (sales per employee) was 15.5% up, productivity per hour grew by 9.2%, and unit wage costs were 7.3% down y-o-y.
New orders in industrial enterprises in selected CZ-NACE activities reached CZK 86.7 billion (current prices) in June 2004, of which non-domestic orders accounted for CZK 54.1 billion. The y-o-y index of new orders in total was 125.1%, of which new non-domestic orders made up 126.8%. The highest volumes of new non-domestic orders were signed in ‘manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers’ and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ – their y-o-y indices were 121.2% and 137.9%, respectively. The volume of new non-domestic orders decreased in ‘manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus’ (index 93.1%) and ‘manufacture of other transport equipment’ (index 93.6%).
