Growth of the industry driven by manufacture of cars

In July 2006, seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 0.4% month-on-month. The year-on-year industrial production index reached 111.8%. Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of 2000) rose by 12.2%. Industrial new orders were up by 16.7% year-on-year.

Seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 0.4% month-on-month in July 2006. The trend grew by 0.7% (Table 5).

The year-on-year industrial production index reached 111.8%. Except for April, double-digit growth of the industry is on from the beginning of the year.The growth of industrial production (Table 6) was most affected by ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+33.5%, contribution to the growth of industry in total 5.6 percentage points), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+17.7%, contribution 2.1 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+14.8%, contribution 2.0 p.p.). Decreases were recorded for ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (-6.2%, contribution -0.4 p.p.), ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-1.2%, contribution -0.1 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (-2.8%, contribution -0.1 p.p.).
As to the main industrial groupings, production increases were recorded for ‘capital goods’ (+23.7%), ‘consumer durables’ (+17.5%), ‘intermediate goods’ (+9.1%) and ‘energy’ (+5.8%). Production of ‘consumer non-durables’ decreased (-0.9%).
Sales from industrial activity at constant prices (of 2000) rose by 12.2% year-on-year. The increase of sales from industrial activity was most contributed to by ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+33.3%, contribution to the growth of industry in total 5.9 percentage points), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+18.7%, contribution 2.7 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+13.4%, contribution 1.5 p.p.). Sales from industrial activity decreased in ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (-6.1%, contribution -0.4 p.p.), ‘manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products’ (-4.3%, contribution -0.1 p.p.) and ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (-4.7%, contribution -0.1 p.p.).
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased by 13.6% at constant prices (+11.5% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales of industrial enterprises was 48.5% (current prices).
Sales from industrial activity of foreign-controlled enterprises were up by 23.1% at constant prices (+22.5% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 59.3% (current prices). Direct export sales of industrial foreign-controlled enterprises increased by 20.4% at constant prices (+18.5% at current prices) and made up 75.6% of total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
The average number of employees in the industry went up by 1.2% (+13.6 thousand persons) year-on-year. Increases were registered in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (+8.5%), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment’ (+6.1%) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+5.8%). Employment decreased most in ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’ (-9.1%), ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-4.8%) and ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (-4.6%).
The average monthly nominal wage in the industry rose by 5.7% year-on-year and amounted to CZK 19 281. The average hourly wage increased by 4.5% and was CZK 162.7. Labour productivity in industry (sales per employee) rose by 10.8% and hourly labour productivity by 9.5%. Unit wage costs were down by 4.6%.
Industrial new orders in selected CZ-NACE activities concluded in July reached the value of CZK 120.5 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic industrial new orders made up CZK 79.2 billion. The industrial new orders index (y-o-y) in total stood at 116.7%, of which the non-domestic industrial new orders index was 120.5%. Non-domestic industrial new orders grew most in ‘manufacture of medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks’ (index 239.1%), ‘manufacture of other transport equipment‘ (index 144.3%) and ‘manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers‘ (index 133.1%). Non-domestic industrial new orders dropped in ‘manufacture of wearing apparel, dressing and dyeing of fur’ (index 84.6%), ‘manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products‘ (index 94.9%) and ‘manufacture of chemicals and chemical products‘ (index 95.3%). The volume of orders in selected CZ-NACE activities was CZK 364.7 billion (index 123.4%) at the end of July 2006.
