High growth of industry

In January 2006, seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 2.8% month-on-month. The year-on-year industrial production index reached 115.1%. Sales in industry at constant prices (the year 2000) rose by 16.3%. Industrial new orders were up by 19.3% year-on-year.

In January 2006, seasonally adjusted industrial production was up by 2.8% month-on-month. The trend grew by 0.8% (Table 5).

The year-on-year industrial production index reached 115.1% (or 112.7% working days adjusted, WDA), which is the second highest growth in the time series since 2001. There was one more working day in January 2006 compared to January 2005).
The growth of industrial production was most affected by manufacture of transport equipment (+39.7%, raising the growth of industry by 7.27 percentage points in total), manufacture of electrical and optical equipment (+22.0%, raising the growth by 2.40 percentage points) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+7.4%, raising the growth by 1.07 percentage points). Decreases in industrial production were recorded for manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (-2.8%, decreasing the growth by 0.10 percentage points), manufacture of textiles and textile products (-1.9%, decreasing the growth by 0.06 percentage points) and mining and quarrying except energy producing materials (-6.3%, decreasing the growth by 0.03 percentage points).
The industrial production rose in all the main industrial groupings: in ‘consumer durables’ (+36.4%), ‘capital goods’ (+32.2%), ‘intermediate goods’ (+7.2%), ‘energy’ (+6.5%) and ‘consumer non-durables’ (+5.9%).
Sales in industry at constant prices (the year 2000) rose by 16.3% or 13.9% (WDA). Sales in industry rose especially in enterprises with 500 or more employees (+21.7%), and their proportion in total sales stood at 60.5%. High growth of ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (+39.8%), ‘manufacture of electrical and optical equipment (+26.7%) and ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+7.0%) contributed to the increase of total sales in industry.
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises rose by +14.0% at constant prices (+11.2% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales of industrial enterprises stood at 48.1% (current prices).
Sales of industrial foreign-controlled enterprises were up by 26.6% at constant prices (+23.3% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 58.8% (current prices). Their direct export sales increased by 16.4% at constant prices (+13.6% at current prices) and made up 76.4% of total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
In January 2006, the average number of employees in the industry went up by 2.3% (+25.8 thousand persons) year-on-year. Year-on-year, employment increased in ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’, ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ and ‘manufacture of wood and wood products’; and decreased most in ‘manufacture of textiles’, ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ and ‘manufacture of leather and leather products’.
The average monthly nominal wage rose by 6.3% year-on-year and amounted to CZK 18,008. The average hourly wage increased by 3.0% and was CZK 120.5. Labour productivity (sales per employee) increased by 13.7% and productivity per hour by 10.3%. Unit wage costs were down by 6.5%.
Industrial new orders in selected CZ-NACE activities were worth CZK 142.8 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic industrial new orders made up CZK 87.7 billion. The industrial new orders index (y-o-y) in total stood at 119.3%, of which the non-domestic industrial new orders index was 109.6%. Non-domestic industrial new orders increased most in ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (index 140.9%), ‘manufacture of fabricated metal products, except of machinery and equipment’ (index 122.2%) and ‘manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers‘ (index 118.0%). Non-domestic industrial new orders dropped in ‘manufacture of other transport equipment‘ (index 44.9%), ‘manufacture of wearing apparel, dressing and dyeing of fur‘ (index 71.2%)and ‘manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products‘ (index 95.3%). The volume of orders in selected CZ-NACE activities was CZK 313.4 billion in the end of January 2006.
