Publication Date: 12. 10. 2005
Product Code: r-8001-05
In August 2005, seasonally adjusted industrial production was by 1.7% down month-on-month. The trend grew by 0.8% month-on-month (Table 5).

The year-on-year industrial production index reached 108.6% or 107.2% (working days adjusted, WDA; there was one more working day in August 2005 compared to August 2004). Sales in industry at constant prices (the year 2000) rose by 10.3% or 8.1% (WDA).
Industrial production increased most in the following CZ-NACE activities:
- ‘manufacture of transport equipment’ (motor vehicles, reconditioning of railway and tramway locomotives and rolling-stock)
- ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (parts for air conditioning machines, new agricultural tractors of engine power > 75 kW but <= 90 kW)
- ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ (rubber-to-metal bonded articles for tractors and motor vehicles, insulating fittings of plastic for electrical machines)
The largest decreases in industrial production were recorded for:
- ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (basic iron and steel and ferro-alloys, cold drawing)
- ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (coal gas, steam and hot water supply)
- ‘manufacture of wood and wood products’ (shuttering of wood for concrete constructional work, veneer sheets and sheets for plywood).
The industrial production rose in all the main industrial groupings, most in ‘intermediate goods’ (+16.1%), ‘capital goods’ (+4.2%), ‘consumer non-durables’ (+4.1%), ‘energy’ (+1.9%) and ‘consumer durables’ (+1.7%).
The high growth in ’manufacture of transport equipment’ (+24.7%), ‘manufacture of leather and leather products‘ (+22.2%), ‘manufacturing n.e.c’ (+16.9%) and ‘manufacture of machinery and equipment’ (+16.2%) contributed to the increase of total sales in the industry.
Direct export sales of industrial enterprises rose by 12.0% at constant prices (+9.1% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales of industrial enterprises stood at 47.0% (current prices). The biggest increases in direct export sales at constant prices were recorded for ‘mining and quarrying except energy producing materials’ (+51.7%), ‘manufacture n.e.c.’ (+33.9%), ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (+28.6%) and ‘manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (+24.0%). The direct export sales dropped in ‘mining and quarrying of energy producing materials’ (-9.7%) and ‘manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-8.2%).
Industrial foreign-controlled enterprises raised their sales by 16.8% at constant prices (+13.9% at current prices), and their proportion in total sales stood at 53.6% (current prices). Their direct export sales increased by 11.1% at constant prices (+7.7% at current prices) and accounted for 73.2% of the total sales of these enterprises at current prices.
The average number of employees in the industry went up by 0.3% (+3.5 thousand persons) year-on-year. Year-on-year, the employment increased in ‘manufacture of transport equipment’, ‘manufacture of rubber and plastic products’ and ‘manufacture of wood and wood products’; it decreased most in ‘electricity, gas and water supply’, ‘mining and quarrying except energy producing materials’ and ‘manufacture of textiles and textile products’.
The average monthly nominal wage amounted to CZK 18 040, rising by 6.8% year-on-year. The average hourly wage increased by 2.7% to stand at CZK 136.1. Labour productivity (sales per employee) increased by 9.9% and productivity per hour by 5.8%. Unit wage costs were 2.8% down.
New orders in industrial enterprises in selected CZ-NACE activities were worth CZK 112.0 billion (current prices), of which non-domestic orders accounted for CZK 71.6 billion. The year-on-year index of new orders in total was 102.7%, of which the index of new non-domestic orders was 102.9%. The value of new non-domestic orders increased most in ‘manufacturing of other transport equipment’ (index 151.3%) ‘manufacture of radio, television and communication equipment and apparatus’ (index 132.2%), ‘manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (index 127.7%). The volume of new non-domestic orders dropped most in ‘manufacturing of medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks‘ (index 76.2%), ‘manufacturing of wearing apparel, dressing and dyeing of fur’ (index 87.5%) and ‘manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment‘ (index 93.8%).
