In Q4 2008 the total value of domestic new construction orders grew by 12.7% year-on-year and reached CZK 90.1 billion. At the end of the quarter observed construction enterprises recorded 12.2 thousand domestic orders (-13.2%) worth CZK 213.4 billion (+13.2%).
In the year 2008 observed construction enterprises booked new orders valued at CZK 309.4 billion (+17.4%).

New construction orders
In Q4 2008 observed construction enterprises booked 16 872 new construction orders (-13.7% y-o-y) worth CZK 90.1 billion (+12.7% y-o-y).
The value of new construction orders for new construction, reconstruction and modernisation increased by 13.0% y-o-y and reached CZK 82.1 billion. The value of construction orders:
- grew by 44.2% in non-residential buildings not designed for production (contribution 8.8 percentage points);
- grew by 26.6% in civil engineering works (contribution 13.7 p.p.);
- decreased by 2.6% in water management works (contribution 0.0 p.p.);
- decreased by 27.1% in residential buildings (contribution -4.0 p.p.);
- decreased by 44.7% in non-residential buildings designed for production (contribution -5.5 p.p.).
In Q4 2008 the value of new construction orders for non-residential buildings not designed for production and for civil engineering works contributed most to the growth. These orders included financially demanding projects of transport infrastructure on the one hand, and construction and modernisation of hospital complexes on the other. Orders for construction of residential buildings and non-residential buildings designed for production fell.

Average value per domestic new construction order reached CZK 5.3 million (CZK 9.3 million per public order and CZK 2.5 million per private order) and was up by 30.5% in comparison to Q4 2007. Out of the total value of new construction orders amounting to CZK 90.1 billion, public orders made up CZK 65.2 billion (share 72.4%, +40.3% y-o-y) and private orders CZK 24.9 billion (share 27.6%, -25.6 y-o-y). By number of orders, private orders prevailed and made up 58.3% of the total of 16 872 new orders booked.
Construction orders by value and period of completion
The total value of construction orders reached CZK 213.4 billion at the end of Q4 2008. The value of construction orders rose by 1.0% in comparison to the end of Q3 2008 and grew by 13.2% in comparison to the end of 2007.

In total, medium and large construction enterprises (100+ employees) accounted for 89.2% of the value of construction orders. Enterprises with 1000+ employees had the biggest share (55.2%) in the total value of construction orders registered at the end of Q4 2008.
Out of the total number of 12.2 thousand construction orders booked at the end of Q4 2008, 76.3% will be completed within 6 months and 90.7% within a year. From the total value of CZK 213.4 billion of construction orders, 41.1% will be completed within 6 months and 70.4% within a year. The value of construction orders recorded on 31 December 2008 amounting to CZK 213.4 billion represented an about seven months reserve of work for construction enterprises.

Orders cancelled
In Q4 2008, 158 construction orders worth CZK 1.2 billion were cancelled.

In the year 2008 observed construction enterprises booked 72 424 new construction orders (-11.4% y-o-y) worth CZK 309.4 billion (+17.4%). Average value per domestic new construction order reached CZK 4.3 million (+34.4%).
In the year 2008 28 680 public orders (+1.5%) were booked valued at CZK 181.7 billion (share 58.7%, +49.1%); and 43 744 private orders (-18.2%) worth CZK 127.7 billion (share 41.3%, -9.9%).
