Value of new construction orders in civil engineering markedly up

In Q2 2008 the total value of domestic new construction orders reached CZK 76.4 billion and grew by 12.8% year-on-year. At the end of Q2 2008 observed construction enterprises recorded 16.9 thousand domestic orders worth CZK 213.4 billion.

New construction orders

In Q2 2008 observed construction enterprises booked 19 428 new construction orders (-10.0% year-on-year) worth CZK 76.4 billion (+12.8%).
The value of new construction orders for new construction, reconstruction and modernisation was CZK 69.9 billion and increased by 12.5% year-on-year. The value of construction orders:
- grew by 50.7% in civil engineering (contribution 17.4 percentage points);
- grew by 0.6% in non-residential buildings designed for production (contribution 0.1 p.p.);
- decreased by 14.5% in residential buildings (contribution -3.2 p.p.);
- decreased by 6.4% in non-residential buildings not designed for production (contribution -1.4 p.p.);
- decreased by 21.3% in water management works (contribution -0,4 p.p.).

The growth in the value of new construction orders in civil engineering continued, boosted by planned construction of financially demanding projects of transport infrastructure supported from European structural funds.

Average value per domestic new construction order reached CZK 3.9 million (CZK 5.4 million per public order and CZK 3.0 million per private order) and was up by 25.3% in comparison to Q2 2007. Out of the total value of new construction orders amounting to CZK 76.4 billion, public orders made up CZK 40.1 billion (52.5%) and private orders CZK 36.3 billion (47.5%). By number of orders, private orders prevailed and made up nearly two thirds of the total of 19 428 new construction orders.


Construction orders by value and period of completion

The total value of construction orders reached CZK 213.4 billion at the end of Q2 2008. In comparison to the end of Q1 2008 the value and the number of construction orders increased.

In total, medium and large construction enterprises (100+ employees) accounted for 87.2% of the value of construction orders. Enterprises with 1000+ employees had the biggest share (53.6%) in the total value of construction orders registered at the end of Q2 2008.

Out of the total number of construction orders recorded at the end of Q2 2008, four fifths will be completed within 6 months and 94.0% within a year. From the total value of construction orders, roughly a half will be completed within 6 months and 70.0% within a year. The value of construction orders recorded on 30 June 2008 amounting to CZK 213.4 billion represented a nearly eight months reserve of work for construction enterprises. In comparison to the end of Q1 2008 the reserve of work increased by half a month.

Orders cancelled

In Q2 2008, 127 construction orders worth CZK 0.54 billion were cancelled.
