Value of new construction orders highly up year-on-year

In Q1 2008 the total value of domestic new construction orders reached CZK 62.0 billion and increased by 23.6% year-on-year. At the end of Q1 2008 observed construction enterprises recorded 16.0 thousand domestic orders worth CZK 205.2 billion.

New construction orders
In Q1 2008 observed construction enterprises booked 15 191 new construction orders (-13.4% year-on-year) worth CZK 62.0 billion. After a decrease throughout 2007 the value of construction orders grew nearly by a quarter.
The value of new construction orders for new construction, reconstruction and modernisation was CZK 58.0 billion and grew by 24.8% year-on-year. The value of construction orders:
- more than doubled in civil engineering (contribution 30.5 percentage points);
- grew in residential buildings by 5.2% (contribution 1.1 p.p.);
- decreased in non-residential buildings designed for production by 13.2% (contribution -3.7 p.p.);
- decreased in non-residential buildings not designed for production by 12.2% (contribution -2.7 p.p.);
- decreased in water management works by 31.8% (contribution -0,4 p.p.).
The high growth in the value of new construction orders in civil engineering was affected by planned construction of financially demanding roads and highways, including reconstruction and modernisation of railways and intersections.

Average value per domestic new construction order reached CZK 4.1 million (public order CZK 5.7 million, private order CZK 3.2 million) and was up by more than two fifths year-on-year.
Public orders (worth CZK 30.9 billion) and private orders (worth CZK 31.1 billion) had roughly the same share in the total value of new construction orders. By number of orders, private orders prevailed and made up nearly two thirds of the total of 15 191 new construction orders.
Construction orders by value and period of completion
The total value of construction orders reached CZK 205.2 billion at the end of Q1 2008. In comparison to the end of Q4 2007 the value and number of construction orders increased.
Orders by size groups of construction enterprises

In total, medium and large construction enterprises (100+ employees) accounted for 88.7% of the value of construction orders. Enterprises with 1000+ employees had the highest share (54.8%) in the total value of construction orders registered at the end of Q1 2008.
Out of the total number of construction orders recorded at the end of Q1 2008, four fifths will be completed within 6 months and 94.2% within a year. From the total value of construction orders, more than two fifths will be completed within 6 months and 71.2% within a year. The value of construction orders recorded on 31 March 2008 amounting to CZK 205.2 billion represents a seven-and-half months reserve of work for construction enterprises. In comparison to the end of Q4 2007 the reserve of work increased by half a month.

In Q1 2008, 194 construction orders worth CZK 0.5 billion were cancelled.
