Construction in the second quarter of 2006
In Q2 2006, construction continued to catch up the delay from preceding quarter (due to the long winter period). The favourable development was boosted mainly by low interest rates and continuing financial flows from local budgets.
Construction output at constant prices was up by 6.5% in Q2 2006, working days adjusted by 7.8% (Q2 2006 was 3 working days shorter).

Construction put in place
The value of construction put in place in Q2 2006 grew by 5.6% year-on-year.
Employment
Construction enterprises with 20+ employees employed 162 587 persons (+0.6% y-o-y), of which manual workers made up 104 421 persons (-1.8%).
Wages
The average monthly wage of employees in construction enterprises with 20+ employees reached CZK 19 906 (+6.3% y-o-y), the hourly wage was CZK 127 (+8.5%).
Labour productivity
Labour productivity was up by 6.4%, labour productivity per hour grew by 8.7% and unit wage costs dropped by 0.1%, all year-on-year.
Building permits
The planning and building control authorities granted 34 360 building permits in Q2 2006 (-8.6% year-on-year). The approximate value of newly permitted constructions reached CZK 101.3 billion (+19.9% year-on-year).

Housing construction
There were 11 089 dwellings permitted for construction by the planning and building control authorities in Q2 2006, which was up by 12.4% year–on–year. Out of that, new construction should provide 9 081 dwellings (+18.5%), predominantly in residential buildings (8 899 dwellings). A total of 2 008 dwellings (-9.0%) should be obtained through renewals and enhancements. From the total of newly permitted dwellings, 10 374 will be built in residential buildings (+1 235 dwellings) and 715 in non-residential buildings (-16 dwellings).
The total approximate value of constructions in Q2 2006 was by 19.9% higher year-on-year. A growth of roughly a half (+48.2%) was recorded for non-residential buildings, where the approximate value of renewals and enhancements doubled due to scheduled operations of modernisation and reconstruction in the energy sector. The approximate value of newly permitted dwellings in residential buildings was up by 10.8% year-on-year.
The average acquisition value of a new dwelling in a new residential building stood at CZK 2.3 million, whereas a new dwelling obtained through renewal or enhancement cost CZK 1.2 million.
In Q2 2006, the planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with a floor space of 1 986.7 thousand m 2, which was down 2.4% year-on-year. Out of that, the floor space of new constructions was 1 825.2 thousand m 2 (-1.1%), floor space of dwellings obtained through renewals and enhancements 161.6 thousand m 2 (-14.7%).
An average floor space of 121.3 m 2 (-5.5%) was permitted for new construction of residential buildings in Q2 2006; approximate value per m 2 was CZK 18.7 thousand, like a year earlier.
