Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL): is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional modem can provide.

Broadband: ADSL, Cable TV, wireless and other types of access with speed connection 128 kbps and more

Computer hardware: Physical equipment used for input, processing, and output activities an information system

Computer software (or simply software): refers to one or more computer programs in the storage of a computer for some purpose. Program software the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software.

Densely-populated area. This is a contiguous set of local areas, each of which has a density superior to 500 inhabitants per square kilometre, where the total population for the set is at least 50,000 inhabitants.

Desktop computer: can be defined as a computer that usually remains fixed in one place.

Digital Subscriber Line, or DSL, is a family of technologies that provide a digital connection over the copper wires of the local telephone network.

Electronic equipment: includes mobile phones, cameras, radios, TVs, DVD players, etc.

E-mail: Electronic transmission of messages, including text and attachments, from one computer to another located within or outside of the organisation. This includes electronic mail by Internet or other computer networks.

Formal education: education at school

Freeware : is computer software which is made available free of charge. It is usually distributed without source code and often carries a restrictive licence. For example, a license might allow the software to be freely copied, but not sold, or might forbid commercial, government or military use.

GSM banking : is a term used for performing transactions, payments etc. over mobile phone.

ICQ : is a compuret program which allows the sending of text messages, URLs, multi-user chats, file transfers, greeting cards and more.

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network): is a type of circuit switched telephone network systém, designed to allow digital (as opposed to analog) transmission of voice and data over ordinary telephone copper wires, resulting in better quality and higher speeds, than available with analog systems. More broadly, ISDN is a set of protocols for establishing and breaking circuit switched connections, and for advanced call features for the end user. ISDN services can simultaneously transmit voice, data and video with maximum bandwith of 128 kbps.

Internet activities related to public administration: includes obtaining information from public administration web sites, sending e-mails to public administration authorities, downloading forms posted on public authorities web sites, etc.

Internet banking (Online banking) : is a term used for performing transactions, payments etc. over the internet through a bank's secure website. This can be very useful, especially for banking outside bank hours (which tend to be very short) and banking from anywhere where internet access is available.

Internet user: person who used the internet in the last 3 months

Intermediate area. This is a contiguous set of local areas, not belonging to a densely-populated area, each of which has a density superior to 100 inhabitants per square kilometre, and either with a total population for the set of at least 50,000 inhabitants or adjacent to a densely-populated area.

Internet telephony (Voice over IP, VoIP, IP Telephony) : is the routing of voice conversations over the Internet or any other IP network.

LAN: Local Area Network is a computer network covering local area, like a home, office, etc.

Looking for services related to travel and accomodation: looking for accomodation, tickets, trips, etc.

Making an appointment on-line with a practitioner: coveres the use of on-line systems to book a consultation with a doctor (general practitioner or specialist)

Modem: Connects the households via dial-up either through analogue modem or ISDN. Both types can be categorized as narrowband.

Multimedia Messaging System (MMS): is the logical evolution of the Short Message Service SMS, a text-only messaging system for mobile networks. MMS-enabled mobile phones enable subscribers to compose and send messages with one or more multimedia (digital photos, audio, video) parts.

Narrowband mobile connection (GPRS): Access to the internet via mobile phone, narrowband connection.

Obtaining information (sms) : includes all information and services (traffic, culture, public transport, shopping, weather, sport, etc.) which are sent as SMS to mobile phones of users

Personal computer: includes all types of personal computers (desktop computer, portable computer,
handheld computer)

Personal computer user: person who used a personal computer in the last 3 months

Portable computer: A portable computter can be defined as a computer that is small enough to carry. Includes notebooks but not handheld computers.

Purchasing goods/services over mobile phone: ordering goods/services over SMS or WAP. Does not include phone calls to order services or goods (pizza, taxi, etc.)

Seeking health related information : includes general searches via a search engine (Google, Seznam, etc.) using a key word. This item also includes more specific searches on specialized web sites.

Seeking medical advice on-line from a practitioner: concerns getting in contact with a practitioner via electronic way (e-mail, websiet interface, etc.) in order to get medical advice.

Shareware: is a marketing method for software, whereby a trial version is distributed without payment ahead of time as is common for proprietary software. Typically shareware software is obtained free of charge by downloading, thus allowing one to try out the program ahead of time. Shareware is also known as try before you buy, demoware, trialware and many other names.

Short message service (SMS): is a service available on most digital mobile phones that permits the sending of short messages (also known as SMSes, text messages, messages, or more colloquially texts or even txts) between mobile phones, other handheld devices and even landline telephones.

Spam by e-mail : is a type of spam that involves sending identical or nearly identical messages to thousands (or millions) of recipients. By definition, spam is sent without the permission of the recipients.

Telework : is work performed from a distance (at least half of day per week), typically over a network such as the Internet, as opposed to work performed directly on site.

Thinly-populated area: This is a contiguous set of local areas belonging neither to a densely-populated nor to an intermediate area.

Tickets for events: includes ticket for concerts, cinema, sport events, theatre, etc.

Used the internet for health related activities: includes seeking health related information, seeking medical advice on-line from a practitioner, making an appointment on-line from a practitioner.

Videoconference : is a live connection between people in separate locations for the purpose of communication, usually involving audio and often text as well as video. At its simplest, videoconferencing provides transmission of static images and text between two locations. At its most sophisticated, it provides transmission of full-motion video images and high-quality audio between multiple locations.
