Public Transport and Communications
Introductory note | Contents |
Dear Users,
This periodical ‘Public transport and communications in the Czech Republic’, you are holding in your hand, is a follow up of the publication ‘Public transport and communications in the Czech Republic’ of the same name but designed in a different way and part of the chapter ‘Transport, Communications and Tourism’ contained in the publication ‘Services in the Czech Republic’ brought out in the past. You will find here evaluation of trends in employment, key financial indicators, indicators on goods and passengers transported for a given quarter and the period from the start of year.
The periodical is presented in two languages - Czech and English - and is also available in electronic form. We made efforts to come up with a new idea of the publication and hope this form of its will suit your needs.
The Branch Classification of Economic Activities (CZ-NACE) breaks down transport into the following individual branches, communications being classified separately.
60 Land transport; transport via pipelines
61 Water transport
62 Air transport
63 Supporting and auxiliary transport activities; activities of travel agencies
64 Post and telecommunications.
The source for processing quarterly information on employment and financial performance of enterprises classified to transport and communications is the ‘Quarterly questionnaires for businesses of selected production branches’ P 3-04 (b) and P 3-04 (c).
The population of units, of which all are mailed the questionnaires, includes legal persons as well as natural persons with 20+ employees. As to the questionnaire P 3-04 (b), the reporting duty is limited to units of 20-29 employees, whereas the questionnaire P 3-04 (c) is completed and returned by businesses with 100+ employees. Mathematical statistical methods are used to complete the measured data by imputing and growing-up to refer to the basic population of units with 20+ employees filed in the CSO Business Register (BR), account being taken of whether the respondent under survey is active or not. Selected indicators relating to the population of legal and natural persons not measured (0 to 19 employees) are estimated.
Tables 1.1 - 1.4 list numbers and structure of units included in the CSO BR as at the last day of the quarter concerned. Tables 2.1 (transport) and 2.2 (communications) show key indicators for the two industries in general. The other tables 3.1 to 3.7 and 4.1 to 4.5 show data for enterprises with 20+ employees. The largest enterprises (100 employees and over) are presented in tables 5.1 (transport) and 5.2 (communications).
A source for processing quarterly information in terms of volume indicators are data from departmental questionnaires of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The selected volume indicators for transport are listed in tables 6 to 8.5.
The data for individual periods of 2001 are comparable in terms of methodology with previous periods’ data; however, the latter may differ from those published last year owing to corrections of data for previous periods (e.g. capture of data from questionnaires sent late). In some sum items, rounding-off may give rise to minimum differences.
