Occupancy in Collective Tourist Accommodation Establishments - Detailed Results
Methodology | Contents |
This publication brings detailed results obtained by the connection of a quarterly (CR2-04) and monthly (CR1-12) survey on guests1) in collective accommodation establishments. Data mentioned are sums of the data processed from submitted questionnaires and imputed data on the accommodation establishments that failed to present a completed questionnaire.
The survey results are still negatively affected by the state of the Register of Accommodation Establishments (RUBT) that has not yet been connected to any administrative source of information that would provide automatic updating. The survey produces information only on the reduction of accommodation establishments and not on their increase. This was one of the reasons why the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) made a census of accommodation establishments in 2001. Moreover, a system of updating the Register is under preparation - it will enable updating of RUBT on the basis of information from the Business Register; entities newly included in the Business Register with the activity of accommodation are addressed and asked whether they do their business in the area of tourism. This year, cooperation started with the CZSO Regional Offices that will enable to obtain better overview and more update information on accommodation establishments in individual regions; it will help to complete elimination where there are duplications on one accommodation establishment (many accommodation establishments when their operator changed did change also their name without announcing the fact to the CZSO). Resulting from the above-mentioned should be RUBT of much better quality and thus also better statistical information on guests in collective accommodation establishments.
The numbers of accommodation establishments and their capacity for the year 2002 (state indicator) were given in the annual publication "Capacity of Tourism Accommodation Establishments" and represent the state as at 31 July 2002. The same publication with the results for 2003 (now already as at 31 December 2003) will be issued in September 2004.
Guests in an accommodation establishment are persons (including children) who used the services of the accommodation establishment for their temporary stay. Persons (Czech nationals and foreigners) who used accommodation establishment services for temporary stay for the purpose of employment are not included. The length of temporary stay does not exceed 1 year for the visitor (guest) to be taken as a tourist.
Gross use of bed places is arrived at by using the total of permanent bed places. Net use of bed places refers to the use of permanent beds actually available to guests. Similarly, net use of rooms relies on the rooms actually available to guests.
This publication will be issued in the following months: July, September, December 2004 and March 2005.
Note 1) From the 60th calendar day following the last day of the reference month the following are available in the CZSO Information Services Section: a table with preliminary monthly data for the Czech Republic on guests broken down by arrivals and overnight stays of domestic and foreign tourists in collective tourist accommodation establishments and a table with an overview of use of bed places and use of rooms at hotels and boarding houses. These data, however, have to be considered only rough, as they result from a limited sample, which is grossed up to all collective accommodation establishments.
