Construction

Introductory note

Contents

A. Population of the construction enterprises

The population of the construction enterprises based in the Czech Republic includes business entities with construction as principal activity (classified to CZ-NACE Division 45), namely:
    (a) construction enterprises with 20+ employees (data are measured on Questionnaire Stav 1-12)
    (b) construction enterprises with less than 20 employees (construction work data are estimated monthly).

B. Brief notes on methodology

Construction work

Construction work comprises erection, reconstruction, expansion, renewal, repair, maintenance, etc. of permanent and temporary buildings and structures in particular. Installation work concerning constructions and the value of the material and structures used are also included. In other words, it comprises work classified under CZ-CPA Division 45.

Construction work “S” (according to delivery contracts), total

Construction work “S” refers to the value of own construction activity outputs (including built-in material) of the reporting unit carried out on the basis of delivery contracts for the final user (builder). The value of construction work sub-deliveries, if any, received from other suppliers so that the delivery contract for the final user can be fulfilled is also counted in. However, construction work sub-deliveries from the reporting unit to other suppliers or construction work deliveries made between establishments of the reporting unit are excluded.

The volume of construction work actually carried out is reported in invoiced values excluding value added tax. The value of work already done but not invoiced yet is estimated and does not include VAT either.

The construction work “S” is broken down to construction work carried out in the CR and abroad.

Construction work “S” carried out in the CR

It is broken down by type of work carried out:
    (a) construction work concerning new construction, reconstruction and modernization,
    (b) construction work concerning repairs and maintenance (only for the final user and not on own tangible fixed assets),
    (c) other construction work that cannot be included under (a) or (b) above, such as drilling and testing work; excavating, earthmoving and stripping work carried out under delivery contracts for other units within their operating activities (not for capital construction); demolition work (at places where no implementation of another construction project will follow), engineering activity surcharge (if it is part of a construction work delivery contract), etc.

The construction work under (a) to (c) measured for reference and previous years is converted to the level of the price average of the year 2000 by means of price deflators published by the Price Statistics Department and the External Trade Statistics Department of the CZSO. They are monthly estimates corrected at the end of quarters according to direct quarterly survey results.

Construction work “S” carried out abroad

It comprises the volume of construction work carried out for final users abroad and also includes sub-deliveries, if any, received from other organizations (both domestic and foreign). Figures for the corresponding period of previous years are given in previous years’ prices (they are not deflated).

Basic construction output (ZSV), total

The basic construction output (ZSV) refers to the volume of construction work carried out by the reporting unit’s registered number of employees and also includes productive work of apprentices. The volume of work concerning new construction, reconstruction and modernization for own organization is counted in. The indicators “S” and “ZSV” are approximately related as follows:
construction work according to delivery contracts
    - work received as sub-deliveries from other units
+ work provided as sub-deliveries to other units
= construction work carried out by own employees.

Employees, total

The registered number of employees comprises all permanent and temporary employees who have contracts of employment with the reporting unit, irrespective of what activity they pursue. It excludes women on maternity leave and child-care leave, persons on military service, apprentices, and students gaining operational experience.

Manual workers on construction work

Manual workers on construction work are labourers who are directly engaged in construction work or ensure the enterprise’s construction activities (manual workers in transport or storing, fully or mostly carrying out work for construction activities of the enterprise). They participate in construction activities of the enterprise and are classified into sub-major group 71, 72, 81, 83, and 93 of the national Classification of Occupations.

Wages of employees and manual workers (excl. other personnel expenses)

Wages of employees and manual workers are gross nominal wages of persons who have contracts of employment with the reporting unit. Amounts paid from other personnel expenses funds are not included.

Hours worked

The indicator includes total hours worked by all employees and manual workers (labourers) on construction work.

Seasonally adjusted (SA) indices are computed by means of the DEMETRA method and characterize the influence of month-on-month seasonal adjustments on original (NSA) indices. They will be updated and refined depending on the time procedure of revisions of original indices.
