Contents

In 2007, 43 796 dwellings were started, i.e. 0.1% up year-on-year. There were 41 649 dwellings completed, i.e. 38.0% up on 2006. In total 170 972 dwellings were under construction, i.e. 1.3% up year-on-year.

Dwellings started

In 2007, 43 796 dwellings were started, i.e. by 0.1% more (+49 dwellings) than in 2006. Increases were registered especially in multi-dwelling buildings (+5.1%, i.e. 742 dwellings) and family houses (+1.8%, i.e. 370 dwellings). Decreases were observed in all the other types of constructions, the most marked in new dwellings in community care service homes and boarding houses (-44.3%, i.e. 434 dwellings) and in dwellings obtained by conversion of non-residential spaces (-32.0%, i.e. 322 dwellings).
By region, the most dwellings were started in the Středočeský Region (8 201 dwellings) and in Prague (7 886 dwellings). The least dwellings were started in the Karlovarský (588 dwellings) and Liberecký Region (1 244 dwellings).

Dwellings completed

In 2007, 30 190 dwellings were completed, i.e. a year-on-year increase of 38.0% (+11 459 dwellings). The highest increases were recorded in new dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings (+80.4%, i.e. 8 101 dwellings) and in dwellings in family houses (+28.4%, i.e. 3 758 dwellings). A decrease was reported for new dwellings completed in community care service homes and boarding houses (-30.3%, i.e. 230 dwellings).
The busiest housing construction activity was observed in Prague and its neighbourhood, in the Středočeský and Jihomoravský Region, the lowest activity then in the Karlovarský, Ústecký and Liberecký Region. In Prague and Jihomoravský Region the most dwellings were built in multi-dwelling buildings, the other regions preferred dwellings in family houses (mainly the Středočeský, Jihočeský and Moravskoslezský Region).

Dwellings under construction

The total of 170 972 dwellings under construction on 31 December 2007 was by 1.3% more (+2 147 dwellings) year-on-year. The highest share had family houses (50.3%), the lowest dwellings under construction in community care service homes and boarding houses and dwellings obtained by conversion of non-residential spaces (1.4%).
The indicator ‘dwellings under construction’ is on the long-term increase because numbers of dwellings started increase more rapidly than numbers of dwellings completed; dwellings whose construction has been suspended are also included.

Dwelling modernisations (upon building permit)
In 2007, modernisation of 18 758 dwellings was completed, which was by 11.3% less than in 2006. The most modernisations were completed in Prague and in the Jihomoravský Region, the least in the Liberecký and Plzeňský Region.
