The number of started dwellings recorded the growth of 5.8% in 2003, which is by 453 dwellings more y-o-y. The higher growth of number of started dwellings was in family houses by 15.0% (by 365 dwellings more). The fall was primarily in started multi-dwelling buildings by 6.0% (by 196 dwellings fewer), in community care service homes and homes-boarding houses by 8.4% (by 27 dwellings fewer) and in non-residential buildings by 18.0% (by 41 dwellings fewer).
The most started dwellings were in the City of Prague (2 203 dwellings) and in the Středočeský Region (1 423 dwellings), the least ones were in Liberecký ( 210 dwellings) and in Královéhradecký Regions (203 dwellings).
In the first quarter of 2003, the number of completed dwellings decreased by 23.2% (by 1 514 dwellings fewer) y-o-y. The fall was in all categories of housing construction. The most fall afterwards was in multi-dwelling buildings by 37.4% (by 560 dwellings fewer) and in converted non-residential rooms by 70.4% (by 458 dwellings fewer) which was especially influenced by high reference basis of first quarter 2002.
By regional aspect, the highest number of completed dwellings was in Prague (912 dwellings) and in the Středočeský Region (908 dwellings), then the least number was in Karlovarský and Liberecký Regions (110 dwellings).
The total number of dwellings under construction increased by 7.8% (by 9 601 dwellings more) y-o-y. The number of dwellings under construction increased in all types of housing construction. The highest proportion of dwellings under construction was in family houses (46.2%), whereas the lowest number of them was recorded in non-residential buildings (2.4%).
With regard to regions, the highest share of these dwellings was in the Středočeský Region (17.0%) and the lowest in the Liberecký (3.7%) and Karlovarský Regions (2.4%). The number of dwellings under construction in the long term increases because the number of started dwellings is higher than the number of completed dwelling and it includes also dwellings, the construction of which was stopped for the time being.
In the first quarter 2003, modernization of 2 811 dwellings was completed, which is by 8.9% less y-o-y. Most modernizations were completed in the City of Prague and in the Jihomoravský Region.
