The number of started dwellings increased by 5.9% (943 dwellings up) y-o-y. The highest increase in the number of started dwellings was observed in all types of extensions in multi–dwelling buildings (an increase of 27.6%, i.e. 264 dwellings more). Decreases were recorded for started dwellings in community care service homes and homes-boarding houses (38.7% or 331 dwellings down) and in non-residential buildings (19.7% or 93 dwellings down).
Most of the started dwellings were in the Středočeský Region (3 176) and the City of Prague (3 095), least of them ones were in Karlovarský (307) and Ústecký Regions (511). The very favourable situation in the market of mortgage credits and in saving for building purposes or purchase of house plus the increase in the value of the means invested in this way expected in connection with the accession to the EU were the main reason for further increase in the number of started dwellings.

The number of completed dwellings fell by 15.5% (1 797 dwellings down) compared to January-June 2002 when the number of completed dwellings was very high (index 2002/2001 = 121.4). The fall occurred in all categories of housing construction. The highest was in converted non-residential rooms (56.0% or 581 dwellings down) and all types of extensions in multi-dwelling buildings (34.4% or 278 dwellings down).
Regionally, the highest numbers of completed dwellings were measured for the Středočeský Region (1 824) and the City of Prague (1 618), while the lowest numbers were in the Karlovarský (193) and Ústecký Regions (264).

The total number of dwellings under construction increased by 7.6% (9 670 dwellings up) y-o-y. The number increased almost in all types of housing construction. It only dropped slightly in community care service homes and homes-boarding houses (by 0.5%). The number of dwellings under construction increases in the long term, because the number of started dwellings is higher than the number of completed dwellings and also because it includes dwellings whose construction was suspended.
With regard to regions, the highest percentage of these dwellings was in the Středočeský Region (18.6%) and the lowest in the Ústecký (2.7%) and Karlovarský Regions (2.0%). The highest percentage of dwellings under construction was in family houses (48.2%) and the lowest was recorded for non-residential buildings (2.2%).

In the first half 2003, modernization of 5 584 dwellings was completed (12.3% down y-o-y), mostly in the City of Prague and the Středočeský Region.
