New construction orders

In Q2 2007 observed construction enterprises booked 20 767 new construction orders (down by 11.5% year-on-year) in a total value of CZK 66.2 billion (down by 6.9%).

By type of construction, the value of new orders was:
  • up by 53.4% (contribution 6.1 percentage points) for non-residential buildings designed for production;
  • up by 21.4% (contribution 3.3 p.p.) for residential buildings;
  • up by 11.0% (contribution 0.1 p.p.) for water management works
  • down by 25.7% (contribution -10.2 p.p.) for civil engineering works;
  • down by 21.8% (contribution -5.2 p.p.) for non-residential buildings not designed for production;
  • down by 11.9% (contribution -0.9 p.p.) for repair and maintenance;
  • down by 21.9% (contribution -0.1 p.p.) for other work.

The increase in the value of new construction orders for non-residential buildings designed for production was affected mainly by construction of industrial buildings. Also the value of new orders for housing construction continued growing.
The year-on-year fall in the value of new construction orders for civil engineering works is attributable to a high comparable basis (in Q2 2006 new orders for financially demanding projects of road and highway infrastructure were booked) and to a delay in the preparation of public orders for civil engineering works.

The average value of a domestic new construction order was CZK 3.2 million (public order CZK 3.8 million, private order CZK 2.9 million), i.e. up by 5.1% on Q2 2006. Out of the total value of new construction orders, public orders made up CZK 27.5 billion (share 41.5%; decrease by 31.4% year-on-year), of which civil engineering works CZK 16.2 billion (share 59.0%). Private orders made up CZK 38.7 billion (share 58.5%; increase by 24.7% year-on-year), of which building construction CZK 30.8 billion (share 79.4%). By number of construction orders, private orders prevailed and accounted for 65.3% of the total number of new orders.

Construction orders by value and period of completion

The total value of domestic construction orders reached CZK 213.1 billion at the end of Q2 2007. In comparison to the end of Q1 2007, the value of domestic construction orders decreased by 2.3%.

In total, medium and large construction enterprises (100+ employees) accounted for 88.7% of the value of construction orders. Enterprises with 1000+ employees had the biggest share (54.9%) in the total value of construction orders registered at the end of Q2 2007.

Among 18.6 thousand construction orders in Q2 2007, 82.8% will be completed within 6 months and 95.5% within a year. From the total value of construction orders (CZK 213.1 billion), 46.7% will be completed within 6 months and 71.3% within a year. The value of construction orders recorded on 30 June 2007 amounting to CZK 213.1 billion represented a nearly eight-months’ reserve of work for construction enterprises. In comparison to the end of Q1 2007 the reserve of work hardly changed.

Orders cancelled

In Q2 2007, 108 construction orders worth CZK 0.6 billion were cancelled.
