New construction orders

In Q1 2007 observed construction enterprises booked 17 163 new construction orders (increase 4.9%) in a total value of CZK 49.5 billion. Following a yearlong growth in 2006, the value of construction orders dropped by 13.0% in comparison to Q1 2006.

The value of new orders by type of construction was:

  • up by 32.3% (contribution 10.0 p.p.) for non-residential buildings;
  • up by 25.7% (contribution 3.6 p.p.) for residential buildings;
  • up by 9.4% (contribution 0.5 p.p.) for repair and maintenance;
  • up by 12.1% (contribution 0.04 p.p.) for other work;
  • down by 54.9% (contribution -25.8 p.p.) for civil engineering works;
  • down by 59.4% (contribution -1.3 p.p.) for water management works.
The increase in the value of new construction orders for non-residential buildings was affected mainly by planned construction of financially demanding shopping and administration centres and industrial halls.
On the other hand, the year-on-year fall in the value of new construction orders for civil engineering works is attributable to a high comparable basis of Q1 2006 when new orders for financially demanding projects of road and railway infrastructure were booked.

The average value of a domestic new construction order was CZK 2.9 million (public order CZK 3.3 million and private order CZK 2.7 million), i.e. down by 17.0% on Q1 2006. Out of the total value of new construction orders, public orders made up CZK 17.6 billion (35.6%) and private orders CZK 31.9 billion (64.4%). By number of construction orders, private orders prevailed and made up 69.4% of the total of 17 163 new orders.

Construction orders by value and period of completion

The total value of domestic construction orders reached CZK 218.2 billion at the end of Q1 2007. In comparison to the end of Q4 2006 the value of domestic construction orders hardly changed.

There is a direct relation between the value of a construction order and the size of the construction enterprise. In total, medium and large construction enterprises (100+ employees) accounted for 89.4% of the value of construction orders. Enterprises with 1000+ employees had the biggest share (54.3%) in the total value of construction orders registered at the end of Q1 2007.

Among 17.5 thousand construction orders recorded at the end of Q1 2007, 79.7% will be completed within 6 months and 94.9% within a year. From the total value of construction orders (CZK 218.2 billion), 46.7% will be completed within 6 months and 72.1% within a year. The value of construction orders recorded on 31 March 2007 amounting to CZK 218.2 billion represented an over eight-months’ reserve of work for construction enterprises. In comparison to the end of Q4 2006 the reserve of work shortened by almost two months.

Orders cancelled

In Q1 2007, 291 construction orders worth CZK 1.7 billion were cancelled.
