New construction orders

In Q4 2006 observed construction enterprises booked 23 106 new construction orders in a total value of CZK 89.2 billion, which was by 40.2% more year-on-year.

The value of new orders by type of construction was:

  • up by 95.4% (contribution 31.5 p.p.) for civil engineering works;
  • up by 55.7% (contribution 8.5 p.p.) for residential buildings;
  • up by 30.4% (contribution 3.3 p.p.) for non-residential buildings designed for production;
  • up by 4.8% (contribution 0.4 p.p.) for repair and maintenance;
  • up by 59.6% (contribution 0.3 p.p.) for other work;
  • down by 12.3% (contribution -3.7 p.p.) for non-residential buildings not designed for production;
  • down by 3.6% (contribution -0.1 p.p.) for water management works.

The increase in the value of new construction orders for civil engineering works was affected by financially demanding modernisation and reconstruction of railways, road infrastructure and construction of new highways.
On the other hand, the lower year-on-year value of new construction orders for non-residential buildings not designed for production is attributable to a high comparable basis in 2005.

Average value per domestic new construction order was CZK 3.9 million (CZK 6.3 million per public order and CZK 2.5 million per private order), i.e. by 48.3% more than in Q4 2005. Out of new construction orders total, public orders made up CZK 52.4 billion (58.7%) and private orders CZK 36.8 billion (41.3%). By number of construction orders, private orders prevailed and made up 63.9% of the total of 23 106 new orders.

Construction orders by value and period of completion

The total value of domestic construction orders reached CZK 217.8 billion at the end of 2006 (CZK 212.3 billion in Q1, CZK 214.8 billion in Q2, CZK 212.8 billion in Q3).

There is a direct relation between the value of construction order and the size of the construction enterprise. In total, medium and large construction enterprises (100+ employees) accounted for 88.6% of the value of construction orders. Eleven largest enterprises had a share of 56.2% in the total value of construction orders registered at the end of 2006.

Among 15.5 thousand construction orders recorded at the end of Q4 2006, 79.8% will be completed within 6 months and 94.3% within a year. From the total value of construction orders (CZK 217.8 billion), 42.3% will be completed within 6 months and 72.7% within a year. The value of construction orders recorded at 31 December 2006 amounting to CZK 217.8 billion represented a nearly ten-months’ reserve of work for construction enterprises.

Orders cancelled

In Q4 2006, 184 construction orders worth CZK 0.4 billion were cancelled.
