Between the beginning of January and the end of April 2007 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 34 939**) New Act No. 183/2006 Sb., on territorial planning and the building code (the Building Act), is in force from 1 January 2007. This Act, especially in Sections 103 and 104, regulates newly the problem of “granting building permits”. The new Act may have an impact on absolute values in the time series covering building permits and renewals and enhancements, particularly numbers of building permits and their approximate value for non-residential buildings, environmental and other constructions. ) building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 115 permits down on the corresponding period of 2006.
There were 20 516 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 1 119 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 14 468 permits (+ 1 667) and non-residential buildings for 6 048 ( 548).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 5 841 which translates into a decrease of 851.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 8 582, which is by 383 less than in the corresponding period of 2006.

Of the total 34 939 building permits, 18 804 was granted for new construction (53.8 %) and 16 135 for renewals and enhancements (46.2 %).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.5 %), Jihomoravský Region (12.7 %) and the capital city of Prague (9.2 %), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8 %), the Liberecký Region (3.6 %) and Pardubický Region (4.1 %).

There were 14 468 building permits granted for residential buildings: 5 787 of them for new construction (40.0 %) and 8 681 for renewals and enhancements (60.0 %). Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (18.2 %), the Jihomoravský Region (12.9 %) and the Moravskoslezský Region (9.3 %). 2 152 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 14.9 %, of which 3.0 % account for new construction.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction from January till April 2007, are supposed to provide 21 826 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 10 348 dwellings (47.4 %; 10 241 and 107 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 1 986 dwellings (9.1 %; 1 526 in residential buildings and 460 in non-residential buildings). Total 12 334 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 9 492 reconstructed dwellings (43.5 %).

The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 2 491 678 m2 (+ 4.6 %), of which 1 431 135 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 15.5 %) and 1 060 543 m2 in non-residential buildings ( 7.2 %). A floor space of 2 328 636 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 163 042 m2 by renewals and enhancements.


The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of April, amounts to CZK 113 854 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 25 800 million on the corresponding period of 2006.
A total of CZK 76 151 million (an increase of CZK 20 643 million year-on-year, i.e. + 37.2 %) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 32 414 million on residential buildings (by CZK 3 015 million more) and CZK 43 737 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 17 628 million).
A total of CZK 8 093 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 814 million more than in the corresponding period of 2006.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 29 610 million - an increase of CZK 4 443 million on the corresponding period of 2006.
