Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of September 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 98 436 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 7 514 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.

There were 55 427 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. 725 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 37 315 permits (+ 675) and non-residential buildings for 18 112 ( 1 400).

The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 18 181 which translates into a decrease of 6 065.

The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 24 828, which is by 724 less than in the corresponding period of 2005.

Of the total 98 436 building permits, 50 872 was granted for new construction (51.7%) and 47 564 for renewals and enhancements (48.3%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.1%), Jihomoravský Region (13.7%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.6%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8%), the Liberecký Region (3.5%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).

There were 37 315 building permits granted for residential buildings: 13 678 of them for new construction and 23 678 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.8%), the Jihomoravský Region (13.7%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (9.2%). 5 168 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 13.8%, of which 3.1% account for new construction. 63.3% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction from January till September, are supposed to provide 56 714 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 26 446 dwellings (46.6%; 26 095 and 351 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 5 459 dwellings (9.6%; 4 236 in residential buildings and 1 223 in non-residential buildings). Total 31 905 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 24 809 reconstructed dwellings (43.8%).

The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 6 691 045 m2 (+ 13.3%), of which 3 494 660 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 2.8%) and 3 196 385 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 27.5%). A floor space of 6 234 358 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 456 687 m2 by renewals and enhancements.

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of September, amounts to CZK 266 508 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 17 659 million on the corresponding period of 2005.

A total of CZK 173 238 million (an increase of CZK 21 215 million year-on-year, i.e. + 14.0%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 81 064 million on residential buildings (by CZK 6 783 million more) and CZK 92 174 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 14 432 million).

A total of CZK 19 919 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 174 million less than in the corresponding period of 2005.

The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 73 351 million - a decrease of CZK 2 382 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
