Between the beginning of January and the end of May 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 47 523 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 3 668 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.
There were 26 620 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. - 1 167 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 17 738 permits (- 528) and non-residential buildings for 8 882 (- 639).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 8 948 which translates into a decrease of 2 527.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 11 955, which is by 26 more than in the corresponding period of 2005.
Of the total 47 523 building permits, 24 422 was granted for new construction (51.47%) and 23 101 for renewals and enhancements (48.6%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.8%), Jihomoravský Region (14.1%) and the capital city of Prague (9.1%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.9%), the Liberecký Region (3.4%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).
There were 17 738 building permits granted for residential buildings: 6 281 of them for new construction and 11 457 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.7%), the Jihomoravský Region (13.8%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.9%). 2 686 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.1%, of which 3.1% account for new construction. 64.6% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and May, are supposed to provide 29 453 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 13 310 dwellings (45.2%; 13 175 and 135 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 3 193 dwellings (10.8%; 2 447 in residential buildings and 746 in non-residential buildings). Total 16 503 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 12 950 reconstructed dwellings (44.0%).
The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 3 141 162 m2 (+ 3.7%), of which 1 680 438 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 2.4%) and 1 460 724 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 5.2%). A floor space of 2 877 811 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 263 351 m2 by renewals and enhancements.
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of May, amounts to CZK 139 751million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 12 747 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
A total of CZK 90 397 million (an increase of CZK 14 878 million year-on-year, i.e. + 19.7%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 39 488 million on residential buildings (by CZK 3 587 million more) and CZK 50 909 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 11 291 million).
A total of CZK 10 349 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 289 million less than in the corresponding period of 2005.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 39 005 million - a decrease of CZK 1 842 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
