Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of March 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 25 349 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 1 925 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.
There were 13 669 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. 804 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 8 895 permits ( 535) and non-residential buildings for 4 774 ( 269).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 5 068 which translates into a decrease of 1 241.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 6 612, which is by 120 more than in the corresponding period of 2005.

Of the total 25 349 building permits, 13 174 was granted for new construction (52.0%) and 12 175 for renewals and enhancements (48.0%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.8%), Jihomoravský Region (13.7%) and the capital city of Prague (9.1%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3.0%), the Liberecký Region (3.4%) and Pardubický Region (3.9%).

There were 8 895 building permits granted for residential buildings: 3 085 of them for new construction and 5 810 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.8%), the Jihomoravský Region (13.6%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (9.0%). 1 396 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.7%, of which 3.2% account for new construction. 65.3% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 1 834 123 m2 (+ 13.7%), of which 888 684 m2 was in residential buildings ( 2.3%) and 954 439 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 34.6%). A floor space of 1 677 348 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 156 775 m2 by renewals and enhancements.


The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of March, amounts to CZK 64 862 million at current prices, which translates into a decrease of CZK 7 920 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
A total of CZK 40 155 million (a decrease of CZK 1 167 million year-on-year, i.e. 2.8%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 21 434 million on residential buildings (by CZK 2 130 million more) and CZK 18 721 million on non-residential ones ( CZK 3 297 million).
A total of CZK 5 640 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 39 million more than in the corresponding period of 2005.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 19 067 million - a decrease of CZK 6 792 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
