Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of June 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 59 709 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 5 155 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.
There were 33 678 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. 1 434 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 22 542 permits ( 521) and non-residential buildings for 11 136 ( 913).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 10 952 which translates into a decrease of 3 522.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 15 079, which is by 199 less than in the corresponding period of 2005.
Of the total 59 709 building permits, 30 788 was granted for new construction (51.6%) and 28 921 for renewals and enhancements (48.4%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.8%), Jihomoravský Region (13.9%) and the capital city of Prague (8.7%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8%), the Liberecký Region (3.5%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).
There were 22 542 building permits granted for residential buildings: 8 091 of them for new construction and 14 451 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.6%), the Jihomoravský Region (13.8%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (9.0%). 3 268 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 14.5%, of which 3.2% account for new construction. 64.1% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and June, are supposed to provide 35 991 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 16 327 dwellings (45.4%; 16 104 and 223 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 3 879 dwellings (10.8%; 2 901 in residential buildings and 978 in non-residential buildings). Total 20 206 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 15 785 reconstructed dwellings (43.9%).
The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 3 820 900 m2 (+ 4.7%), of which 2 088 308 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 3.6%) and 1 732 592 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 6.2%). A floor space of 3 502 532 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 318 368 m2 by renewals and enhancements.
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of June, amounts to CZK 166 162 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 8 895 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
A total of CZK 108 047 million (an increase of CZK 14 981 million year-on-year, i.e. + 16.1%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 49 096 million on residential buildings (by CZK 5 191 million more) and CZK 58 951 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 9 790 million).
A total of CZK 12 105 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 999 million less than in the corresponding period of 2005.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 46 010 million - a decrease of CZK 5 087 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
