Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of February 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 16 229 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 540 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.
There were 8 507 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. - 61 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 5 442 permits (- 47) and non-residential buildings for 3 065 (- 14).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 3 463 which translates into a decrease of 660.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 4 259, which is by 181 more than in the corresponding period of 2005.
Of the total 16 229 building permits, 8 469 was granted for new construction (52.2%) and 7 760 for renewals and enhancements (47.8%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.4%), Jihomoravský Region (14.4%) and the capital city of Prague (9.0%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3.1%), the Liberecký Region (3.3%) and Pardubický Region (3.9%).
There were 5 442 building permits granted for residential buildings: 1 863 of them for new construction and 3 579 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.5%), the Jihomoravský Region (13.5%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.9%). 871 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 16.0%, of which 3.0% account for new construction. 65.8% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 1 188 940 m2 (+ 23.3%), of which 606 092 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 21.2%) and 582 848 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 25.6%). A floor space of 1 077 560 m2 was obtained in new constructions and
111 380 m2 by renewals and enhancements.
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of February, amounts to CZK 44 328 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 690 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
A total of CZK 27 172 million (an increase of CZK 2 385 million year-on-year, i.e. + 9.6%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 14 151 million on residential buildings (by CZK 3 832 million more) and CZK 13 021 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 1 447 million).
A total of CZK 3 026 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 447 million less than in the corresponding period of 2005.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 14 130 million - a decrease of CZK 1 248 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
