Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of August 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 85 109 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 6 545 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.
There were 48 289 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. 726 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 32 444 permits (+ 409) and non-residential buildings for 15 845 ( 1 135).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 15 427 which translates into a decrease of 5 165.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 21 393, which is by 654 less than in the corresponding period of 2005.

Of the total 85 109 building permits, 43 699 was granted for new construction (51.3%) and 41 410 for renewals and enhancements (48.7%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.9%), Jihomoravský Region (13.8%) and the Moravskoslezský Region and the capital city of Prague (8.5%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8%), the Liberecký Region (3.6%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).

There were 32 444 building permits granted for residential buildings: 11 800 of them for new construction and 20 644 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.6%), the Jihomoravský Region (13.8%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (9.1%). 4 576 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 14.1%, of which 3.1% account for new construction. 63.6% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction from January till August, are supposed to provide 48 864 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 22 686 dwellings (46.4%; 22 382 and 304 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 4 911 dwellings (10.1%; 3 757 in residential buildings and 1 154 in non-residential buildings). Total 27 597 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 21 267 reconstructed dwellings (43.5%).

The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 5 598 345 m2 (+ 8.4%), of which 2 985 653 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 1.9%) and 2 612 692 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 16.9%). A floor space of 5 190 857 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 407 488 m2 by renewals and enhancements.


The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of August, amounts to CZK 234 624 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 14 523 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
A total of CZK 151 652 million (an increase of CZK 18 367 million year-on-year, i.e. + 13.8%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 68 901 million on residential buildings (by CZK 5 882 million more) and CZK 82 751 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 12 485 million).
A total of CZK 16 970 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 114 million less than in the corresponding period of 2005.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 66 002 million - a decrease of CZK 2 730 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
