Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of April 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 35 054 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 3 099 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.
There were 19 397 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. 1 153 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 12 801 permits ( 591) and non-residential buildings for 6 596 ( 562).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 6 692 which translates into a decrease of 1 957.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 8 965, which is by 11 more than in the corresponding period of 2005.
Of the total 35 054 building permits, 18 119 was granted for new construction (51.7%) and 16 935 for renewals and enhancements (48.3%).
Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.0%), Jihomoravský Region (13.7%) and the capital city of Prague (9.4%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3.0%), the Liberecký Region (3.4%) and Pardubický Region (4.0%).
There were 12 801 building permits granted for residential buildings: 4 474 of them for new construction and 8 327 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.9%), the Jihomoravský Region (13.7%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.8%). 2 024 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.8%, of which 3.0% account for new construction. 65.0% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.
The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and April, are supposed to provide 22 405 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 10 152 dwellings (45.3%; 10 085 and 67 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 2 494 dwellings (11.1%; 1 883 in residential buildings and 611 in non-residential buildings). Total 12 646 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 9 759 reconstructed dwellings (43.6%).
The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 2 382 328 m2 (+ 9.5%), of which 1 239 418 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 0.3%) and 1 142 910 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 21.6%). A floor space of 2 176 198 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 206 130 m2 by renewals and enhancements.
The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of April, amounts to CZK 88 054 million at current prices, which translates into a decrease of CZK 9 827 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
A total of CZK 55 508 million (an increase of CZK 399 million year-on-year, i.e. + 0.7%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 29 399 million on residential buildings (by CZK 3 066 million more) and CZK 26 109 million on non-residential ones ( CZK 2 667 million).
A total of CZK 7 379 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 1 348 million less than in the corresponding period of 2005.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 25 167 million - a decrease of CZK 8 878 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
