Building Permits Granted

In January 2006 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 8 652 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 61 permits down on the corresponding period of 2005.
There were 4 371 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. + 131 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 2 802 permits (+ 115) and non-residential buildings for 1 569 (+ 16).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 1 924 which translates into a decrease of 375.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 2 357, which is by 183 more than in the corresponding period of 2005.

Of the total 8 652 building permits, 4 590 was granted for new construction (53.1%) and 4 062 for renewals and enhancements (46.9%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (17.3%), Jihomoravský Region (16.2%) and the capital city of Prague (9.0%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Liberecký Region (2.8%), the Karlovarský Region (2.9%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).

There were 2 802 building permits granted for residential buildings: 933 of them for new construction and 1 869 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.7%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.9%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.8%). 481 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 17.1%, of which 2.9% account for new construction. 66.7% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with floor space 601 646 m2 (+ 20.4%), of which 262 951 m2 was in residential buildings (+ 12.1%) and 338 695 m2 in non-residential buildings (+ 27.6%). A floor space of 534 523 m2 was obtained in new constructions and 67 123 m2 by renewals and enhancements.

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits in January, amounts to CZK 18 348 million at current prices, which translates into a decrease of CZK 4 001 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
A total of CZK 12 468 million (an increase of CZK 69 million year-on-year, i.e. + 0.6%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 6 354 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 687 million more) and CZK 6 114 million on non-residential ones (- CZK 1 618 million).
A total of CZK 1 155 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 725 million less than in the corresponding period of 2005.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 4 725 million - a decrease of CZK 4 960 million on the corresponding period of 2005.
