Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of September 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 105 950 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 7 727 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 56 152 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 5 677 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 36 640 permits (– 2 972) and non-residential buildings for 19 512 (– 2 705).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 24 246 which translates into a decrease of 673.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 25 552, which is by 1 377 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 105 950 building permits, 54 466 was granted for new construction (51.4%) and 51 484 for renewals and enhancements (48.6%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), Jihomoravský Region (13.6%) and the capital city of Prague (8.2%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.9%), the Liberecký Region (3.7%) and Pardubický Region (4.3%).

There were 36 640 building permits granted for residential buildings: 12 577 of them for new construction and 24 063 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.4%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.6%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.5%). 5 625 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.4%, of which 3.4% account for new construction. 65.7% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and September, are supposed to provide 50 576 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 25 381 dwellings (49.2%; 24 884 and 497 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 6 217 dwellings (12.3%; 4 568 in residential buildings and 1 649 in non-residential buildings). Total 31 598 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 18 978 reconstructed dwellings (37.5%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of September, amounts to CZK 248 849 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 21 629 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 152 023 million (an increase of CZK 11 721 million year-on-year, i.e. + 8.4%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 74 281 million on residential buildings (by CZK 4 378 million more) and CZK 77 742 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 7 343 million).
A total of CZK 21 093 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 2 297 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 75 733 million - an increase of CZK 7 611 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
