Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of October 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 119 251 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 8 140 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 62 471 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 6 133 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 40 760 permits (– 3 185) and non-residential buildings for 21 711 (– 2 948).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 27 748 which translates into a decrease of 882.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 29 032, which is by 1 125 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 119 251 building permits, 61 886 was granted for new construction (51.9%) and 57 365 for renewals and enhancements (48.1%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), Jihomoravský Region (13.8%), Moravskoslezský Region (8.1%) and the capital city of Prague (8.1%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.8%), the Liberecký Region (3.8%) and Pardubický Region (4.2%).

There were 40 760 building permits granted for residential buildings: 14 177 of them for new construction and 26 583 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.6%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.7%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.6%). 6 184 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.2%, of which 3.4% account for new construction. 65.2% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and October, are supposed to provide 55 668 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 28 253 dwellings (50.8%; 27 739 and 514 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 6 671 dwellings (12.0%; 4 914 in residential buildings and 1 757 in non-residential buildings). Total 34 924 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 20 744 reconstructed dwellings (37.3%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of October, amounts to CZK 272 235 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 15 953 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 168 198 million (an increase of CZK 10 226 million year-on-year, i.e. + 6.5%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 82 340 million on residential buildings (by CZK 3 576 million more) and CZK 85 858 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 6 650 million).
A total of CZK 24 336 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 3 635 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 79 701 million - an increase of CZK 2 092 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
