Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of November 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 131 296 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 9 596 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.
There were 68 054 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 6 942 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 44 348 permits (– 3 586) and non-residential buildings for 23 706 (– 3 356).
The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 30 851 which translates into a decrease of 1 592.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 32 391, which is by 1 062 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 131 296 building permits, 68 379 was granted for new construction (52.1%) and 62 917 for renewals and enhancements (47.9%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.3%), Jihomoravský Region (13.8%) and the capital city of Prague (8.2%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (2.9%), the Liberecký Region (3.8%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).

There were 44 348 building permits granted for residential buildings: 15 373 of them for new construction and 28 975 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.5%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.7%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.5%). 6 901 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 15.6%, of which 3.5% account for new construction. 65.3% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and November, are supposed to provide 60 948 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 30 722 dwellings (50.4%; 30 146 and 576 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 7 114 dwellings (11.7%; 5 298 in residential buildings and 1 816 in non-residential buildings). Total 37 836 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 23 112 reconstructed dwellings (37.9%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of November, amounts to CZK 302 590 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 17 379 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
A total of CZK 189 627 million (an increase of CZK 11 823 million year-on-year, i.e. + 6.6%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 88 946 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 290 million more) and CZK 100 681 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 10 533 million).
A total of CZK 26 676 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 3 936 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.
The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 86 287 million - an increase of CZK 1 620 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
