Building Permits Granted

Between the beginning of January and the end of May 2005 the planning and building control authorities granted a total of 51 191 building permits on the territory of the Czech Republic, which is 5 123 permits down on the corresponding period of 2004.

There were 27 787 building permits granted for buildings in total (i.e. – 3 331 year-on-year) of which residential buildings accounted for 18 266 permits (– 1 927) and non-residential buildings for 9 521 (– 1 404).

The number of building permits granted for constructions for environmental protections was 11 475 which translates into a decrease of 323.
The number of building permits granted for other constructions amounted to 11 929, which is by 1 478 less than in the corresponding period of 2004.

Of the total 51 191 building permits, 25 380 was granted for new construction (49.6%) and 25 811 for renewals and enhancements (50.4%).

Territorially, rather high investment activities are expected in the Středočeský Region (18.4%), Jihomoravský Region (13.1%) and the capital city of Prague (9.3%), which is in contrast to the lowest construction activities expected in the Karlovarský Region (3.0%), the Liberecký Region (3.5%) and Pardubický Region (4.1%).

There were 18 266 building permits granted for residential buildings: 5 943 of them for new construction and 12 323 for renewals and enhancements. Most of them were granted in the Středočeský Region (17.0%), the Jihomoravský Region (12.3%) and the Moravskoslezský Region (8.4%). 3 177 building permits issued on the territory of the capital city of Prague make up 17.4%, of which 4.2% account for new construction. 67.5% of the building permits granted of the total comes under renewals and enhancements.

The buildings, which were given a go-ahead for the start of construction in January and May, are supposed to provide 24 875 dwellings throughout the Czech Republic. New construction should provide 11 924 dwellings (47.9%; 11 758 and 166 dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings, respectively). Renewals and enhancements resulting in dwellings should be provide 3 479 dwellings (14.0%; 2 538 in residential buildings and 941 in non-residential buildings). Total 15 403 new dwellings. The other renewals and enhancements (i.e. those that do not produce new dwellings) should result in 9 472 reconstructed dwellings (38.1%).

The approximate value of the constructions, for the commencement of which the planning and building control authorities granted building permits by the end of May, amounts to CZK 127 004 million at current prices, which translates into an increase of CZK 10 263 million on the corresponding period of 2004.

A total of CZK 75 519 million (an increase of CZK 4 412 million year-on-year, i.e. + 6.2%) should be spent on construction of buildings, of which CZK 35 901 million on residential buildings (by CZK 1 076 million more) and CZK 39 618 million on non-residential ones (+ CZK 3 336 million).

A total of CZK 10 638 million should be invested in constructions for environmental protection - i.e. by CZK 812 million more than in the corresponding period of 2004.

The approximate value for the other constructions amounts to CZK 40 847 million - an increase of CZK 5 039 million on the corresponding period of 2004.
